Chris Obekpa

I like the optimism expressed in posts such as allnet (as opposed to some of the net? - sorry about that), guru and mjdinkins

we'll get our share

we have a progressive program with enjoyable talent to watch and grow -

potentially the next years will be as high as SJU has even been - not maybe surpassing prior glory years but right up there with them

all the best and remember

only the shadow knows for sure :ninja:

PS I think I'll start a new post hereon - one of the few if any I ever created…we shall see

There is nothing new about that article that we didn't know before

Exactly! Some folks should relax until the signing period has come and gone.

easier said then done.

It isn't for me and, probably, a few others. But, we all know everybody is different.

There are times when one should exude some patience. What's the use of beating yourself over the head about it?

Per Rivals....

Class of 2012 four-star big man Christopher Obekpa is in Las Vegas playing for New Heights. When he finishes playing this weekend, the 6-foot-9 shot-blocker and dunker will take an official visit to Oregon. For now, he's eyeing a May 5 decision date and is unlikely to take any more visits. Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin was in town to watch him and UConn had an assistant in the building.

And no one from SJU?

I would guess Tony is working on Orlando with Lav this weekend. While Chris would be a fab addition, Sanchez is the must have guy in this class.

And may I ask why? Obepka and Chandler would be my priority.

Absolutely. I hope Sanchez signs, and is a tremendous player for us. But Chandler and Obekpa are the priorities.

Sanchez, Chandler and Obekpa are all priorities. Hopefully, we land all three of 'em (as, I certainly want all three players), but I'm not sure it's gonna happen. If we only garner two of the players, then I'm gonna assume it'll be Sanchez and Chandler. Quite frankly, I'd be fine with it.

I don't what make you believe Chandler and Obekpa are the priorities, and not Sanchez (I know Jack stated that was his personal priority). I wouldn't shortchange Sanchez in the least bit. The guy has an all-around solid floor game. He's a guy who can knock down jumpers; pass the ball efficiently; board; and volley shots. You can never go wrong with those kinda players.

the reason people say Obekpa and Chandler are the priorities is because they are Centers and that is our weak link. Give me 2 of the 3 in a SJU uniform next year and I will be happy.

Sanchez and Bourgault are visiting St John's this weekend
I would doubt that Coach Lavin is in Orlando
He's good but not even Houdini can be in two places at once

MarkRedman
yes he can - strange things happen - I think we are in good shape with recruits and always will be with Lavin at the head

all the best

We'll have enough size with Chandler, Sanchez, GG and Sampson. I bet you didn't know Obekpa was only like 6'8". He's practically the same height as Sanchez and Sampson. So, it isn't quite a Center, as you may think.

Yes we will. If we can get Chandler and Sanchez up front we will be in way better shape than we were this past season and coach will have another 12 months to find another 4/5 to replace GG.

My comment was a general one about posters comments.I did know CO is 6 8, I ve been diligently following these sites. He seems to have more Center skills then Sanchez,, shot blocking, rebounding, although about the same height but weighs more.Sanchez is probably better offensively.. I would love to have Sanchez and be happier to have him and Chandler. Chandler is the true Center at 6 11,but his academics are questionable.

ALLNET SAYS:

I agree but it seems like Obepka may not be with us. I hear Cincy whispers. Go figure !

So Chandler, if he qualifies, and Sanchez seem more likely, but we need more beef backup. Two tough, enforcer type, board banging Europeans and a three point specialist.. I don't think that Steve went across the Atlantic, with his entourage, to come back empty handed.

I think we will have some of our answers within two weeks and almost every thing will be concluded by mid May.

" Good things come to those who wait."
