Chris Obekpa

Lavin really is amazing. Seemed like Obekpa was signed sealed and delivered to Cincy. I'm sure Lavin will pull out all the stops including probably have Chris's teammate and recent SJU recruit show up for an unofficial. In Lavin we trust.

This is my first prediction on this site--so here goes--OC will were a SJU uniform next season.

Slyfoxx 1968 : your post was right on the money-- when we lose to gt 1985 big east championship playoffs moses missed his first 3 shots in the opening minutes of the game--he was free --the play worked but he missed after the it was history. At the NCCA semi finals he was not effective--I was at both games--Lou keeps his word-- his players always came first

I saw your email and tried to send you a message but it wouldn't go thru. Send me a message.

hey guys Cincinnati fan here, do you guys think he'll commit to St. Johns this weekend? I have been hearing for a while that he is a UC lean, so I was surprised to see a visit to St. Johns was even set up.

Thanks

Thanks for stopping in Bearcats,

We had heard he was all but locked up for you guys, even some of the people on our board who "are in the know" had said that. So the fact we got him to visit this weekend caught a lot of us by surprise, and in turn has many of us thinking were back in it.

Remains to be seen how he really feels. No real consensus here, although naturally we like our odds once Lavin gets a kid to visit.

moose posted in another thread that coach has him at 40 40 club tonight. Coach going with the star power. Very interesting to see the outcone. Hope he came in with open mind and spirit.

I still hope Lavin brings in a zone buster shooter... Watching the NCAA GAMES, the really good teams usually have more than 1 player that can drill 3's.. I'm not convinced we have those additional shooters ..

Until I see it on the Court in November, I'll be skeptical..That doesn't mean I'm not optimistic about next year but, let's see who else comes on board this recruiting period.

SLY - I too have seen the likes of Florida break that vaunted Louisville zone down but the key was not the 3-point shooters, it was the dribble penetration from a great point guard (aka Bradley Beal--who would be the first guard off the board in the NBA drart), he countiually broke down the zone thus making louisville collapse then kicked it out to open shooters also their full court pressure and half court trap were not as effective as it has been on other teams. Remember that Big Ten champ Mich. State looked horrible against L'Ville because of no point. The key to our season next year will be if Jamal Branch has this ability or not.

As for the tourney, I beliveve that L'ville has a chance against Kentucky because thay do not have great guards like Florida had.

Just speculating but if Lavin had been here, we would have had a good shot at having Walker as one of our guards,. Instead we got his CTK co-guard.

Malik Boothe had the heart of a lion and was a staunch defender . He just had no size and no shot.

The silence on this site is almost ominous.

Why don't we at least get the usual ! He had a great time ,he loves all the guys and the coaching staff is special !

Why not? Some do it all the time.

a lot of people didnt even know he was coming for an official visit. im not sure many people have inside info on this one.

I don't remember seeing any "great trip!" stuff from him regarding Cincinnati or anywhere else, so maybe he just likes to hold his cards close to his vest. Also, unlike out-of-town kids, he may not have been so awed by hitting some spots in Manhattan. And for all we know, he might have taken this visit to placate his coach or teammate Felix Balamou, or maybe just to make sure his feelings toward SJU haven't changed. Who knows? That said, it sure would be nice to see of "great trip!" comment from him ... and I've been checking the board every 20 minutes or so hoping to see it.

The kid has been real quiet on his recruiting this entire time outside of twittergate. We had been rumored for a long time to be getting his last official. Based on what everyone has been saying I'm surprised it happened. I'm glad the staff is still involved.

I just wonder how this board will react if he comes in and averages 5 ppg, 4 rpg and 2 bpg next year.

Thats what i'd expect from him. To be honest i'd be happy with that as long as he brings a defensive presence as well that doesn't show up on the box score

If Gift averages 10, 4 and 1 with the above we would have a combined 15, 8 and 3. those would be great numbers.....combined:)

Great point Moose. People need to be patient with big men like this,. Look at development of Louisville Big and oft injured Chris O at Marquette, great shot blockers in need of maturation and offensive development. Takes time, but too many folks want results sooner than later IMO.

All along the post from those who have seen him have pointed to his defensive presence, especially as a shot blocker.
