Chris Obekpa

I still hope Lavin brings in a zone buster shooter... Watching the NCAA GAMES, the really good teams usually have more than 1 player that can drill 3's.. I'm not convinced we have those additional shooters ..

Until I see it on the Court in November, I'll be skeptical..That doesn't mean I'm not optimistic about next year but, let's see who else comes on board this recruiting period.

SLY - I too have seen the likes of Florida break that vaunted Louisville zone down but the key was not the 3-point shooters, it was the dribble penetration from a great point guard (aka Bradley Beal--who would be the first guard off the board in the NBA drart), he countiually broke down the zone thus making louisville collapse then kicked it out to open shooters also their full court pressure and half court trap were not as effective as it has been on other teams. Remember that Big Ten champ Mich. State looked horrible against L'Ville because of no point. The key to our season next year will be if Jamal Branch has this ability or not.

As for the tourney, I beliveve that L'ville has a chance against Kentucky because thay do not have great guards like Florida had.

The one big problem for Louisville will be if Dieng gets in foul trouble against the size of Kentucky.

I just wonder how this board will react if he comes in and averages 5 ppg, 4 rpg and 2 bpg next year.

Those numbers may not be far off. But if his presence helps this team win 20-plus games, finish in the top half of the BE, and get an NCAA bid, I'd think we'd all be perfectly fine with them.

He's also not a 7 footer, so for all those who enjoy the height debate keep that in mind.

Those numbers I gave were Dieng's freshman year numbers at Lville by the way.

I just am fearful that our sometimes delusional fan base :) is expecting him to come in here and solve all our problems. He won't. Not out of the gate freshman year. But I think the Dieng numbers are pretty attainable for freshman year.

Good point Moose. It is the sum of the parts, not the individual parts that will determine the teams success next year.

What is the opinion if after the official visit.we do not get an immediate verbal IMO makes our case pretty weak

In 15-20 minutes a game I'd take it in a heartbeat. First year all I want is this kid to clean up some garbage on the offensive boards, be a presence on the defensive end, act as a backstop when we press and trap and I'll be happy. Then let his game mature and expand at the offensive end as he gets to be a soph and onward.

If Gift averages 10, 4 and 1 with the above we would have a combined 15, 8 and 3. those would be great numbers.....combined:)

That's pretty close to the stats that Terrence Jennings put up playing in rotation with Dieng last year. slightly more blocks and boards. They were efficient as a two headed post player which is what STJ needs. That said I would prefer another big as well since I don't think Gift is really that good at the post in the zone. Just not tall enough and I'm not sure Jakarr is best suited playing there either. That's why STJ needs to sign 2 more bigs.

How does it make our case weak?? This guy has been very deliberate with his process...just because you are impatient really has no effect on whether we are in good standing or not...i guess Cinci is in even worse shape since he didn't commit to them already by your logic...chill out, pieces will fall into place

I'll take Dieng's freshmen numbers. The question is will we be better next year with Obepka? My vote is yes.

I hear you talking. I will feel a lot better if/when we get a true, quality C to commit. That is our missing puzzle piece.

You are biting your nails over a decision an 18 yr old kid is going to make. Let's get real here!!! It's college basketball, we are not awaiting the cure for cancer!!!

Nobody is saying this is a cure for cancer or we are awaiting the answer to the nations economic woes. This is an interesting time of year and I think it would be fair to say most posters are real curious to see how the recruiting class will unfold.

And rationally or irrationally this program means a lot to people who spend an inordinate amount of time on this forum.

I would feel just great Moose.

Right ... because that'll mean that he picked us over Cincinnati and Providence.

uconn offered ...I guess getting the 50th ranked player in the espnu rankings doesn't mean much  ....http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/126079/christopher-obekpa

Not to mention that if we land obekpa we'll have 3 top 50 players already in this class.
