Chris Obekpa

IMO, having seen him twice last month, Sampson is a pure PF.

Yeah, I agree with that. I just think he'll get time at both spots. He doesn't have the range of a SF at this point. Can be a dominant college PF though with more strength.

just heard jakaar and obepka are both on campus, can anyone confirm?????
hopefully gift is there also!!!

Correct. I was told the same thing. Jakarr was visiting anyway and it was planned last week. It is unrelated to the Obepka visit.

I heard the same thing. That CO is on campus this weekend.

I wonder if others backed off on him because of his tweet, forcing his spirit to re-embrace us.

Maybe we're just all overanalyzing his twitter vernacular. I've read at least 3 interpretations thus far. I'm good with whatever the staff feels they want to pursue.

Somehow i missed this oft-cited tweet. Could you kindly tell me what it said?

Please PM me if you would rather not rake over these particular coals in public at this time.

Thanks.

Go back about 5 pages.
All there.

Got it thanks.

The most cryptic message since the Delphic Oracle went out of business.

Mark Redman had the best response saying that whoever figured it out would get Obekpa.

Have a hunch Coach Lavin deciphered it and Obekpa will wear red in November.

Thanks for the kind words
I'm blushing :)
Hope your prediction is correct!

wow!! very shocked at the visit, i really thought the opebka ship had sailed.....he and staff would not be meeting on a official if there isnt high intersted on BOTH sides...... i love our chances with lavin!!!
but i dont see all 3 coming either, first 2 to sign is the way i see it

I think that's how Louie got Mark Jackson - telling the top three NYC point guards first to sign is it!

all the best

That may be so ... except that Mark Jackson wasn't the first to sign. If I remember correctly (and I'm pretty sure I do), Pearl Washington announced first, on national TV (to Al McGuire at half during a CBS broadcast), then Kenny Smith opted for UNC, which came as no surprise. So Mark was last man standing when he committed to St. John's.

In order to get back on topic I would think that CO would be an excellent pick-up for this team.
He has the potential to be a very good four year college player which is exactly what this team needs.
Lets get this done and have a great weekend.

Does anyone know if there is firm date for commitments for next season? School starts in September for SJU but in other places it starts in August. Does this even matter? Sorry for my ignorance but it just seems that guys are committing and decommitting so frequently or late that it is hard to get an idea who will be on the team next year. Part of it of course is my hope for next years team. :woohoo:

I believe the signing period is April 11- May 15

Love all the buzz!! With us being involved with such high level recruits we might have to get used to some of our kids being here 1,2 years!!! I think good good news is coming very soon.....

Vis a Vis, Pearl, Kenny Smith, Mark Jackson.. Interesting that Mark clearly became the best of the trio in the NBA. Rookie of the Year, Top 5 all time assists, etc..

I just wish Louie would have played him over Mike Moses in 1985.. Moses was outplayed frequently in the BE, NCAA Games against G'town.. Mark was clearly the better player, even as a soph.. Louie's loyalty to players often came at the team's expense.. Kevin Williams was a much better PG than Bobby Kelly, yet Kelly played more minutes..

Obviously, Louie was a great HOF Coach but, fellow icons like Boeheim, JT1,Calhoun, all play the better players, never confusing loyalty with skills.

All Coaches have weaknesses, just like players.. Louie got a lot out of team's with less talent than the above mentioned but, in 1985 he had Mullin, Berry, Wennington, Jackson, all 1st round future NBA PLAYERS.

He just couldn't solve G'town's box and 1 on Mullin, yet under utilized Berry against Ewing and the G'town fron court..

I hope CO becomes a Redmen soon.

I still hope Lavin brings in a zone buster shooter... Watching the NCAA GAMES, the really good teams usually have more than 1 player that can drill 3's.. I'm not convinced we have those additional shooters ..

Until I see it on the Court in November, I'll be skeptical..That doesn't mean I'm not optimistic about next year but, let's see who else comes on board this recruiting period.

Re Pearl and Mark-an interesting aside. Before Mark ever played a game for the Johnnies a friend of mine was speaking to him in Alumni Hall and told Mark that when Pearl was asked about him he said that Mark was not even a D1 player. Mark became somewhat enraged and said we'll see about that. Believe this helped psch Mark up just a little bit more when he went up against Pearl (friend made quote up for just this purpose-hey it's something I would not have done so don't shoot the messenger :)

does anyone know what coach has on the agenda for chris? Does he show him tape and say heres how i see you fitting in? Does he bring him into the garden and do one of those blue chip scenes where his name is in lights and they aanounce his name? Does he have baron come in? Does he bring him to the cbs studios to flex his star power? Sorry the childish curiousity gets the best of me..

hey guys Cincinnati fan here, do you guys think he'll commit to St. Johns this weekend? I have been hearing for a while that he is a UC lean, so I was surprised to see a visit to St. Johns was even set up.

Thanks

Thanks for the info rawdog. Sounds like by May 15 we will have a good idea who is coming.

No inside info here, but I truly think the kid still has no clue where he wants to go. Or maybe he does know and is double checking options before announcing.

I will say that if you guys win you did something right, because we already have his friend in the fold, and Lavin is a tough, tough man to beat if he gets a kid on campus for a visit.

There are a few guys here and on Johnny Jungle who likely have some actual inside info as to which way he's leaning, so maybe they'll chime in if they see your post.

This is my first prediction on this site--so here goes--OC will were a SJU uniform next season.

Slyfoxx 1968 : your post was right on the money-- when we lose to gt 1985 big east championship playoffs moses missed his first 3 shots in the opening minutes of the game--he was free --the play worked but he missed after the it was history. At the NCCA semi finals he was not effective--I was at both games--Lou keeps his word-- his players always came first

I heard that Jakarr is on campus to "talk" to Chris...
