This kid Chris Obekpa is UN-BE-BELIEVABLE. Wow. Rodney Abrams leads 59-50 late in the fourth.

He could be a real difference maker for SJU on defense. Best shotblocker next to Nerlens and it's not far off. Hopefully Lavs had an impactful official visit.

Felix with 28 pts. Was gonna do big post but I'll keep this in the Felix thread. Impressed hell out of me tonight. He might have missed 2 or 3 shots the whole night. He was hitting jumpers too not like it was all dunks, even though he gets his head above the rim. You can tell him and Obekpa have a rapport on the court. They look for eachother real well. He sold me tonight.

Obeka finished with 13 pts, 13 blocks and 15-18 boards. Tom Konchalski turned to me and my friend at one point and said he had 9, 14 and 11. And then he added two monsterous dunks and some more boards and blocks after. Obekpa totally sold me tonight as well. I was lukewarm to start with him, but tonight. In a guards tournament he was able to make an impact. Might have maybe had 2 fouls only. His blocks come one and one, help and most importantly to me sometimes in succession. He would block one and then the follow up as well. I don't get nervous when he has the ball. I don't want him dribbling coast to coast but he can grab the board and take a few dribbles to start the break.

*Side note Kimani Young was coaching the Rodney Abrams/New Heights team with Obekpa and Felix.

Thanks for the review, Moose.

Maybe, a kid like Felix's game has plenty of potential and a high ceiling. Does Felix look rather fluid? How was his handle?

I was unsure about Obekpa, as well, and thought about taking Chandler instead of him. But, your reports are warming me up to garner the signature of both players. Quite frankly, we can have both (actually, hearing we are pursuing both), if they are willing to come aboard. Schools like UNC, Ohio State, Syracuse, Kentucky, and even G'town have been known to have a couple of bigs roaming on the court all at once.

So, why not us? Something to chew on, folks.

Actually if you look at the really top programs they always go at least three deep with quality guys at the 4/5 combined, often four deep. I'd love to see Chandler, Obekpa, Sanchez and Sampson, along with Gift. No reason both Sampson and Sanchez couldn't log time at the 3 also. Chandler as the offensive minded Center, Obekpa as he defensive stopper. Add that to our current roster plus another shooter and Balamou, and although still young, we'd be downright scary, especially in the latter part of the season.

He wasn't running point but wasn't playing scared when he did get the ball. Nassir Williams (who I would be all over if I was a MAAC school) ran the point. Felix reminds me of Greene in some ways but Greene is a little herky jerky to me while Felix is smoother. Smooth shot from Felix. Greene is a little taller I think.

Getting CO and Chandler is ideal. Give me Sanchez and 1 of the 2 aforementioned and my cup is full.

Appreciate the feedback, Moose. Looking forward to a rather interesting few weeks in April and May.

Per We Are Depaul, Chris Obekpa is set to take one final visit (Oregon) before deciding on college. #pcbb

Maybe, he takes his fifth and final visit to wherever U. Maybe, he comes to a conclusion once he leaves Oregon. I like the fact that Lavin is selling Obekpa on playing alongside Sampson. Two long, rangy, shotblocking athletes playing with one another could wreak havoc on the defensive end.

I also wouldn't be surprised, if GG had some good advice for Obekpa. Let's hope so.

Here is an excerpt from the article (mainly, the last sentence) that I found intriguing....

“Chris is a much better offensive player than most of the public thinks. All of the coaches realize that he has a good offensive skills. He can pass the ball very well, he is unselfish around the basket and always looks for cutters. He has good form on his jumper. He just needs to make a few minor adjustments.

We have the staff that could certainly enhance the necessary adjustments that are needed. ;)

I just hope Phil Knight's checkbook isnt around when he visits.

LOL Oregon does concern me in this recruitment (due to Nike and their state-of-the-art athletic facilities). Hopefully, he doesn't get overwhelmed during his visit out to Eugene.

Our recruits taking Oregon visits hasnt hurt us in the past. If Obekpa wants to play in a mid-major conference, Oregon is great though... ;)

I'll agree with you, in reference to the conference being quite bad.

It is a long way from home. What type of a relationship does he have with his family? How often will he want to see them? That may play into his decision. Who knows what motivates him. If he wants to be “away” but within driving distance then that plays into his decision If he doesn't mind being 3,000 miles from his family who knows what will have an impact on his decision. My point is we really do not know what is motivating him. What is he looking for in a school and/or a location? Unless I have missed something he really hasn’t given many clues. I guess that is what we all come here everyday to see. What are other fans of the program thinking and to see if the fans “in the know” have heard anything. Keeping my fingers crossed and my internet connection hot!

He's already thousands of miles from family. Let's hope his host family has a really hot 18-year-old daughter. :cheer:

Nice flick Comet!

Chris wasn't as dominant as last night, tonight. The opposing team didn't want anything to do with him and Jordan Washington so they settled to hoist jumpers the whole night. Obekpa might have had 2-3 blocks only. Still solid and it was great to hear all the people talking about how sound his defense is and how he avoids foul trouble in the process. I did notice some issues fighting for loose tip in's a bit where he needs to finish a bit better but thats correctable.
