Charleston Classic

Where are we all going to meet for a drink in Charleston?

There are several spots where we can meet up. Hopefully, we can conjure up some ideas where most of us can agree on. I'll be there Friday at some point.

A few tips for Charleston, fwiw.

Avoid Hymnas.
Jestines = meh.

Try Cru Cafe, Basil, Hominy Grill, High Cotton, Carolinas.

Others will suggest different ones. Plenty to choose from without going to where every other tourist goes to for high-volume fried food.

Plenty of watering holes within walking distance of the game on King Street and/or Market Street area.

Spotty wether on Saturday for golf. But if the sun is out it will be in 50's at worse - likely 60's.

Yes maam and yall will get you a long way down here. Spend lots of money, too.

Glad yall won...will help our RPI.

+1 on the Hominy Grill. Ate there a few years ago and it was good old fashioned Southern food at its best.

Yeah, I was gonna tell the folks to avoid Hymans. It's good, but not the best seafood place to eat in Charleston. It's just the most hyped up spot, and it's generally for the tourists.

It's supposed to be in low 60's and high 50's (for the high) throughout the stay in Charleston.

Do not forget to try the Frogmore Stew.

I am new to this board as of tonight and just want to introduce myself. I have been a long time follower of Redmen.com. I really appreciate the recruiting information, the insights of so many long time SJU (these will always be our initials even if the Jesuits at St. Joe's beat us to the trademark office) fans, and the great work of those who keep this site up and running for all of us to enjoy. Thank you! I am a 74 SJC grad and a 79 law grad and have been a rabid fan since my freshman year in 1970 (Davis, Schaeffer, Cluess, Jenkins, et al. and yes Frank Mulzoff). I had season tics right behind the bench for many years which I regrettably surrendered when we moved from Manhasset NY to NJ. My wife and I will be heading down to the Charleston Classic (one of the perks of my recent retirement) and I look forward to the opportunity to meet those other Redmen.com members whose posts I have been enjoying for years.

Hopefully our boys will exhibit the same level of inspired basketball and tenacious defense that they showed in the second half of today's game. If we couple that with a decent contribution from Jakarr on both ends of the court, this could be a very good week. One other observation from the game, I thought Lavin's move to the match-up zone was an excellent move as it totally befuddled Detroit's offense. Had we boxed out better and limited second half shots in the second half, we might have won going way.

Safe travels to all and GO JOHNNIES!

Are we overlooking CoC? I looked at their schedule last year, they beat Clemson on the road and gave Louisville a bigtime scare at the KFC Why Did I Eat That When I was Sh$*faced Arena. I think most of us would be very happy with a 2-1 record coming out of this weekend.

I'm not overlooking them personally....I think they could beat us, especially there...We should win the game, don't get me wrong, but the guys need to play the way they did in the second half of the Detroit game and it should be a good win...I expect Karr showing up for this game...just a hunch that he'll show why we were hard core after him for two years

Yeah that's a great point. He will inevitably have his ups and downs this year as a freshman but its nice knowing this year that if a kid like Sampson is struggling we can plug in Obekpa/Jones/Garrett for a few added minutes a piece. Hopefully Sanchez can be added to that list.

And by the way, welcome Kevin hope to indulge in SJU banter with you for many years to come

They are no cupcake but they are certainly a team very good teams should beat. 4 quality opponents to start the season.

Learn more from Det and Charleston than NJIT and St Francis

A part of me hopes that we face Baylor and Rico and beat them...maybe i'm still sour with him even though I love the guys we have...

I want 2 wins in Charleston. I really dont care how we get the 2 wins. Just want 2 wins.

I want 3 wins, but 2 at minimum. Put it this way.... I wanna be playing in the final game, Sunday evening.

Remember they can lose to Charleston and then win 2 against lesser opponents so the number of wins isn't as important as who they're against.

Your pretty much talking about a field of legit BCS level teams though.
