(Charleston Classic) NORTH TEXAS, Thur., Nov. 16, 1:30p, ESPNU

Heard from a source that coach Rick had SJU alum Mike Maher talk to the team about the dangers of having an elitist mentality on the court and how you need to always respect the opponent
Yeah, but that didn't really work out because Mike went off on a tangent on lobster rolls and explained his claw rating system in excruciating detail, the training staff had to be called in to resuscitate at least two starters and an assistant coach. Their status is questionable for tomorrow's game. ;)

Practices all have been closed by Rick. Scheduled access for some fans canceled. Rick not playing. Serious as hell.

All work. Demand excellence. Here to win
Shortly after the Rutgers game and the NYSE appearance I heard things were “tightening up” and basically no more F’n around o’clock.

He knows there’s a lot of work to be done. No more distractions. Full steam ahead to create a culture of excellence.

Some of you need to get off the ledge lol we are not losing to North Texas tomorrow chill out! Give this team some time to gel Pitino will get them playing much better by the time conference play begins.

Just a couple of things.
1- To be fair Zach seemed to leave out that Michigan was facing a couple of hurdles very similar to our own. They also were piecing together a team of transfers and were missing the head coach. Not that this is a be all end all but we need to keep it realistic.

2- I know there are some who will panic with the sky is falling. Zach makes it seem that ALL fans feel this and it’s prevalent. Sure with any group of fans some will jump off and point fingers and panic. Some people will reappear to criticize as if by magic. That’s fandom. Personally, I think you can be disappointed but not deterred. I would have thought we would have gone on a run in the 2nd half. Maybe not win but make it tight. No matter. In fact, I think a good number of fans are being patient and believe that the Coach will work his ass off to set the team on a better course. The louder voices in the room don’t always represent the majority.

I think we will do better against teams whose best players are at the wing. From the stats, it seems North Texas is one. We have a pair of shutdown defenders there and a ton of depth.
I get your point but Burnett is 6’4 200 and had 15 points by the first tv break.

hey Johnnies...North Texas alum and 20+ year basketball supporter here. figured I'd swing by to wish good luck, well, at least in your subsequent two games of the tournament and the rest of the season to help our RPI.

in reading the first four pages of this thread say that after having watched your game with UM most UNT fans have the same expectation of winning this afternoon. take that for what it is, I suppose.

UNT is definitely in the best period of program history (kinda like y'all in the 80s, right?). we've built a strong identity as a tough defensive and deliberate offensive team over the last 5-ish seasons and despite losing our head coach following an NIT win, the program and identity still has continuity under long-time assistant Ross Hodge.

taking from the UM game, SJU will likely plan a lot of full-court pressure and try to speed our team up...lots of tried, few have succeeded over the last few seasons...mind you we definitely do not have a dynamic guard like McDaniel (nor a player who is going to career by the first TV timeout).

Aaron Scott is definitely our star now...plays bigger than his 6'7" listing...had largely been asked to be a defender/rebounder his first two seasons, always showed flashes of offensive ability, but is really blossoming now with a larger role.

starting guards Rubin Jones, CJ Noland and John Buggs III can all handle, score and most importantly for our program...defend. Edwards off the bench is JUCO all american...classic small guard spark plug who might go get three straight buckets and then get benched five minutes later for taking three heat-check shots...definitely a wild-card.

Soriano is my biggest concern...kinda felt we even got a bit bullied inside by UNI's slow big white kid. Sissoko and Allen are both good athletes in our center rotation, but will give up a lot of size to what looks like a beast of a big.

I expected more from especially Dingle and Ledlum in the UM game...that pedigree looks strong and I know we'll get better games from both today.

if the game is trending in the 60s, low 70s I love our chances. should be fun.

Nice post. Between the Red Storm & Mean Green, should be a colorful crowd today!
