(Charleston Classic) NORTH TEXAS, Thur., Nov. 16, 1:30p, ESPNU

Concur from this sample highly unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Frankly beating Dayton & losing to Houston is a reasonable outcome considering how bad Johnnies have looked.
I think that would be a best case outcome, Dayton should be a favorite against us

We got sold a bill of goods with Ledlum. Undersized not explosive scoring PF who shoots 29% from 3. Jenkins would be much better off the ball, as a PG he is a volume shooting turnover machine. Lastly, the offense needs to run through Soriano. Clearly our best player, only 5 fg attempts is not going to cut it.
I got yelled at for saying he doesn't look athletic enough to be a BE starter during the Stony Brook game.

Shots gotta start dropping for us sometime! Two games in a row shooting below expectations……..Then again, that’s why I don’t gamble.

Sales of cash bags down 100%

I've said it for years and someone can probably find me saying it on this very board.

Pitino has never met a microphone he didn't like. If I can pick apart a negative of him. That is it. (Cragg quote on ESPN another example). Sometimes he just needs to not try and be the funny guy.

Obviously anything can happen in college basketball but don't think this team is anywhere near being able to compete with Houston at the current moment.
Don't even know who is on their team this season, but generally speaking, Houston D is essentially North Texas on steroids.

Some observations from court side.

1. Defense…. Grade A-, coming along nicely.

2. Offense…. Grade D and only cause they won.
In my many years of following the Johnnies, that was the most disjointed offense I have ever seen. Yes it’s early and yes they are a work in progress but the offense seems void of any sort of plan. For Soriano, who towered over their front court to take 2 shots in the first half while other less efficient players took many and mostly missed was head shaking. .

3. What’s going on with Jordan Dingle and Ledlum? Are they both not as good as advertised? Are they simply mid major players that are adjusting to a higher level of play (even though North Texas is a mid major)? Are they not fitting into Pitino’s system? Whatever it is, if they don’t come around, a predicted 5th place finish in conference may be way too high.

4. Johnnies were well represented in the stands with Dave leading the cheers.

5. I stayed for the LSU Dayton game, both are good teams and seem further along then where St. John’s is at the present time. However the game felt like, as it will tomorrow, a Dayton home game with the entire arena mostly Dayton fans along with their band cheerleaders, etc. Dayton was down 14 with minutes to go and rallied to win with a big assist from their fans.

Are we a more talented team than Dayton…yes. Are we bigger….. yes, can we win the game….. yes but this team will have to play much better, and more players will have to step up to make this happen.

Go Johnnies…..

Just got home. We should have won this game by 30. Danis needs to know his role. He is a point guard and not primary scorer. Joel should touch the ball if not every play every other play. I would love to get a little mean in him but its not joels game but he needs to be aggressive and get the other team in fowl trouble. I would love for whicher to get more burn sao he gains experience and share the load. WIll allow Rick the flexibility to switch out when one or the other get out of control.

Couldn't watch the game...stupid work.

I did listen to it though, and it sounded like Daniss is shooting first, which is not what we need him to do.

North Texas is a fantastic defensive team, and this game was a "get up off the mat after a KO" so will take the W.
Shoot first. Turnover second.

One more thing…. When Soriano shot and missed the first of two free throws with 2.1 seconds to go, he should have been told to intentionally miss the second……….he wasn’t? You have several assistants on the bench and a HOF head coach how did they miss that?

Pitino was adamant about recruiting shooters. Well that didn’t happen.
offense runs that weave beyond the 3 point line and nobody breaks it off and penetrates.
Jenkins is the only one who can put multiple dribbles together.
No drive and dish, no pick and roll, no ball screens equals no offense.
Jenkins taking multiple shots, but others get touches and do nothing with it.
Monte was the first to say mid major players playing in a major conference. Not working so far.
Spot on!! Ball is NOT getting inside! No layups
No fast breaks.
Press produces no turnovers under their basket
Soriano up high too often and NEVER gets ball down low
No cutters!
Ledlum out of control when he drives
Dingle NOT driving at all!
Defense better but still out rebounded !
Effort better but NT a very good defensive team and they go after it !

Lots of Red Storm rooters here. Tomorrow vs. Dayton whole place will be Red haha. They brought their band and cheerleaders we didn’t . We need to rent a band and make some noise! But impressed by amount of fans who traveled here! And vocal!!

Too many pot shots on a team first, overachieving guy like Joel who also puts up solid numbers. It is one thing to try to motivate, another to be too negative publicly. Hopefully it subsides especially with other issues and players to address.
I think this is something they have going between them. Pitino is proving a point that if Soriano can get criticized, then no one is above the team.

X One million!

bamafan,
guess you can't lose tomorrow!
Came down here hoping both would win and play each other in second round. Dressed entirely in St. J's garb and brought Dayton sweatshirt to change into for their game. Have to admit I started rooting for LSU because the Dayton contingent of fans outnumber us about 10-1, filled the building and their crowd noise was deafening. Much bigger St. J's fan than Dayton and wouldn't be able to enjoy a Dayton win tomorrow at all because it would come at our expense.

What if we fouled on the scramble for the rebound? With 2.1 and no time outs they would have needed to inbound quickly on a made shit and advance past midcourt. A 3 would have won the game anyway and a foul would put them in a position to win not tie.

See sju vs. Villanova BET 2022.

Wait, do you think it’s an act?
I think he likes Soriano a lot and told him he would ride him hard in the public eye.

Pitino made sure to bring him back and make him captain. He talked about what a good player he was individually and as a team member.

And we have never heard anything from Soriano saying he is not happy with being called out. He continues to be a leader. Coaches always use players they know can take criticism and be their conduit to the rest of the team.

But that is just the opinion coming from this Pitino fanboy.
