Cam Mack Asks for SJU Release

I'm over hypersensitive players and their parents. Stop letting what anonymous people on the internet say bother you so much.
Posts on this board that reflect the approach of "If I don't know it, it must not be" make me uncomfortable. Something to do with teaching people that learning how to ask better questions is the real goal, at least in working with people suffering from co-occurring mental illness, substance abuse, and trauma derived disorders. This board is a great escape and when the stuff I work on (behavioral health) gets on the board it loses its escape quality. This is the first time in 20 1/2 years that how I work has run in to the way posters are presenting as a source of tension.
Interesting.

“This was a very, very hard decision,” Mack said. “I honestly don’t know where I want to go. I’m going to start the process again. I would still consider going back there. I want to make sure I know what’s going on first.”
Sometimes I read the posts on this site and just shake my head. Do you all realize that during the past two weeks there are over 64 pages of posts regarding Coaching Alternatives? I have read on here that Mack's mother also visits Redmen.com so it would not be a stretch to say that all of the negative posts regarding Chris and his staff may have been instrumental in her and her son reconsidering their commitment to St. Johns. Also, they may not appreciate someone posting, good riddance and he can take his Mom with him.

Another thing that I am curious about is where did people find out that Chris did not reach out to Mack or his Mom after Matt left. I don't know and I don't believe that Chris checks in with the posters on Redmen.com before he contacts recruits. There are other posters who are blaming Matt. To my knowledge, Matt left because he felt it was a better opportunity for his career. Now, I may be crazy, but isn't this what most people do at various points in their professional lives.

My favorite Philosophy course at St Johns was "Logic", it seems as if some on here may not have taken it. LOL
Since I was the one who said good riddance, let me explain; Mack clearly stated his desire to go pro after one year so I don’t want him here, playing for a pro contract, not the team or the school. That’s what Ponds just did, that’s what Jakaar Sampson did. I root for St. John’s, not developing pro players; there is a D league for that. If Mack or his Mom took offense to that, too bad.
Login I don’t believe Panther was referring to your post. You are an exceptionally level headed poster. I am pretty sure he was referring to old school Redmen’s post.
Yeah north, Panther was referring to my post. I have nothing against Cam, he's a good talent and he's help us alot.
The problem I have is his mom.
SJU fans are mean to recruits, the players, and to the coaches. So because of a few bad apples, we're all shit, and we're suppose to be ok with it.
then once a poster says something it's omg what a pos asshole. He's so damn classless.

I didn't say anything after reading all what she said, but now that he wants out, I'll say bye. I don't believe 95% of current players or recruits parents post on message boards or twitter but I guess a very few want to post, so it should be fair game.
And again I don't have twitter and don't care for social media.

I don't regret at all saying bye.

Everyone knew that Zion, RJ and Cam(the other one) were almost certainly making a one year stop over at Duke. However all 3 were savvy enough, to the best of my knowledge, to not start talking their post-Duke plans before they even arrived at Duke. I tired of kids coming here with their number one priority being themselves, not the team. Good luck young man, I expect this move will work out best for both parties.

YES! Send your kids to our school to play ball for us but don't show up on our fan sites to defend them against anonymous "fans" who disparage them based on 5 minute highlight films and JUCO stats!!!

Yeah, she's the problem...

A few rules of thumb when it comes to digital communications that a very wise person once told me. They've served me well in my career...perhaps they will help here:

Rule #1... DON'T HIT "SEND"
Rule #2... See rule #1
Rule #3... If you absolutely have to hit "SEND", don't include anything you wouldn't want your mother to see.

I’m sorry man, you would have to be out of your mind as a parent to go on an anonymous website to try and defend your kid against the rantings and ravings of the small % of posters who are lunatics.

Fair point. But its been my experience that most parents are capable of acting quite irrationally when it comes to defending their children.

My problem with this stuff is that most people on the internet say shit they wouldn't say to a persons face. I'm pretty darn certain that if we were all at a bar together, the internet tough guys who go after KIDS who might choose represent their school or young men that have chosen to do so, wouldn't say a PEEP to their parents. And I'm positive that a kid's mother would have no problems telling fans like that to "fu@k off" right to their faces to defend her son.

I'm gonna be real with you SJUFAN
If she's going back and forth on twitter with those nuts, then yesssssss, she is part of the problem.
Why are you going back and forth with them if you're a parent of a recruit? Why do you give a shit wtf they have to say.
She knows her son is real good, and maybe one day make million$$$$$$ in the NBA, and she'll live the good life, so she shouldn't care. If i'm her and I read it, I'm just laughing, no need to respond to them.

SJUFAN, I wouldn't say anything here, that I wouldn't say to a person face, and I don't give a blank who you are.
Not you, you, but you as in general.

You my be right and there is nothing personal in my reply; Panther is certainly entitled to his opinion and I respect it but I used the term he referred to and wanted to explain why. Obviously, I feel pretty strongly about Mr. Mack and the “announcement” about his future.

No...she's not. Not if she's responding to nitwits.

If she instigates, that's one thing. If she's defending HER CHILD, then its not.

Whether it’s this site or other social media platforms, there are a lot of “keyboard warriors” out there.

Him coming to St. John's, crushing it, and then going directly to the NBA would be good St. John's I'm rooting for him to come here and leave after one year.

No, it would not. Plain and simple, no it would not. Like Harkless leaving didn’t help us or Sampson; just like Ponds won’t. And IMO, come in and crush it, then talk, the guy has bounced around and played one year of JUCO. His right, his life but I don’t need to see another season of a guy playing for a pro contract. I want to see a TEAM.

But, why does she have to defend her son?
If he's really good, then he'll be making millions in the nba soon, and those posters will still be at their 9-5, 5 day a week job, if they even have a job.
