Cam Mack Asks for SJU Release

Surprised if he does not narrow down his list of prospective schools to Nebraska, Nebraska & Nebraska. :)

People know I was never a big Matt fan. Granted I wasn't as overt as my friend Marillac in saying so.
But I'm very surprised Matt stooped to this level.
Anxious to see the next time Matt walks into an SJU event what kind of reception he gets.

Never was a huge fan of Matt. Offered nothing in terms of X's and O's and his recruiting was hit or miss. Relied too heavily on transfers.Follows Hoiberg around like a lost puppy dog.

If Cam chooses to attend Nebraska I wish him well.

I would be inclined to give Mack his release conditioned upon him not playing for either Nebraska or a Big East school..

BE conference rules prevents intra-conference transferring and that extends to an NLI in addition to an enrolled player so no need to condition it with that.

Not sure why you would care if he lands at Nebraska. So what, he was recruited by Matt that should prevent him from following him there? That happens all the time. Again Darien Williams was signed with Iowa St and followed Matt to SJU. Don't remember anyone making a moral stance on that? And again Hoiberg left Iowa St in June long AFTER Matt came to SJU and Williams followed him.

Lastly could care less about Cam Mack and Matt. More concerned about future coaching situation and overall future of program than a player who will never suit up and who SJU will probably never play in the future.

You hearing he had a change of heart- or was he just lying in the first place?

Mack said he won’t join former St. John’s assistant Matt Abdelmassih at Nebraska.

“I’m not going to Nebraska,” he said.[/quote]

I was kidding a bit, but would be surprised. Who knows, maybe he got better offers from more established program. In any event, it is over.

Admittedly I don't remember exactly how it all went down when Matt came and Hoiberg left. I thought it was a lot closer in timing but looking back it wasn't. Williams was coming off a year where he couldn't play because of injuries. (Was he at Iowa State sitting out? or was he still at Juco?) Also if I recall it took him some time get going with SJU as well because of the injuries. Hardly an integral piece to Iowa State's plans as opposed to Cam who was clearly the centerpiece of our 'class'.

I just thought Matt would have a little more of a moral compass to his 'beloved' alma mater but he doesn't. Maybe it will turn out like Darien and be a complete wash anyway.

It's a dirty business this is tame compared to other things.

Personally could care less. This entire coaching situation is pure comedy and an embarrassment.

Bye Macks.

Let's try not going after recruits who attend a dozen schools and have one foot out the door before stepping on campus. LoVett already destroyed our team last season. At least this guy left before doing so.

If he picks WV he will play against us this year.

What level did he stoop to? I see no fault if he tried to recruit him to Nebraska. He knew that Mack had no relationships with any of the other coaches, so why wouldn't he go after him?

You're right nobody else had a relationship with him. But to me there are a lot of other fish in the sea. Who knows though if our staff could have ever repaired the break.

I still think Matt should have just moved on but he has tunnel vision and knows he has a guy he can pull. Even if it sends a place 'he cares about so much' into some more disarray. Maybe I should be thanking him actually.

Funny, Mack reminds me of LoVett as well.
As Monte says, “don’t let the door hit you on the way out”, and good luck to him.

Matt was a hired gun. A hired gun moves from place to place as necessary and in his best interest.

So while it’s not surprising it shows there’s no
Loyalty and it’s all self serving.

Human nature.

I'm sure there are some grad transfers that can play the point. With Matt gone, we need our second recruiter to be all over this. Anyone know who that is?

Or maybe Matt already got a better offer from another school and is headed out of Lincoln lol

Matt bringing Mack to Lincoln doesn't mean much as long as we can get Hsu or Borman (or anyone) in here soon.

What I'm more interested in is if Matt purposely made sure he was the only recruiter/kept staff in dark so he could force pay raises every couple years or always have kids ready to follow him just in case the raise came from another school. Sounds far-fetched, but I've come to the conclusion that Matt isn't the most honorable guy.

Has a 'ring' to it and sounds like great advice.
Although I'd replace 'or' with 'and'.
But hope 'somebody' is listening on the theme.
Lol.
