Cam Mack Asks for SJU Release
Matt bringing Mack to Lincoln doesn't mean much as long as we can get Hsu or Borman (or anyone) in here soon.

What I'm more interested in is if Matt purposely made sure he was the only recruiter/kept staff in dark so he could force pay raises every couple years or always have kids ready to follow him just in case the raise came from another school. Sounds far-fetched, but I've come to the conclusion that Matt isn't the most honorable guy.
Mullin can’t have his head in the sand. Has to know what’s going on w the program ,made a mistake not having more than 1 recruiter.

Honestly, I doubt that occurred. But even if that did happen, then the head coach would have to absolutely be plumb dumb to allow it.

I certainly agree. I should have made clear that even if that did occur, I would hold Mullin ultimately responsible.

I would be inclined to give Mack his release conditioned upon him not playing for either Nebraska or a Big East school..
BE conference rules prevents intra-conference transferring and that extends to an NLI in addition to an enrolled player so no need to condition it with that.

Not sure why you would care if he lands at Nebraska. So what, he was recruited by Matt that should prevent him from following him there? That happens all the time. Again Darien Williams was signed with Iowa St and followed Matt to SJU. Don't remember anyone making a moral stance on that? And again Hoiberg left Iowa St in June long AFTER Matt came to SJU and Williams followed him.

Lastly could care less about Cam Mack and Matt. More concerned about future coaching situation and overall future of program than a player who will never suit up and who SJU will probably never play in the future.
You’re too fixated on the future!

I think the best payback would be making them take Mack in Nebraska. Let Hoiberg deal with some of be negative crap we’ve had to that he narrowly dodged in Ames last time around.

Hoiberg’s agent will be calling NBA teams begging for a job after his third requested meeting with Mack’s mommy in November.

Hoiberg dodged a mental health explosion by a matter of months last time around with Royce White. You can’t keep getting lucky with these types. It’s Russian roulette.

Spend most of your time at the beach chances are you WILL have your head in the sand.
I'm sure there are some grad transfers that can play the point. With Matt gone, we need our second recruiter to be all over this. Anyone know who that is?
Chris assigned Lou C and Jack Kaiser to recruit. They are presently scheduling alternating nap times before hitting the ground running with regards to recruiting.

I have no idea whether that occurred, but I am starting to believe that Matt was the sharpest/shrewdest guy involved with the program. Having said that, it's inexcusable that Chris would have given an employee like Matt, who everyone knew would fly the coop the minute a better offer came along(and likely take whoever he could with him), as much autonomy as he did. Just mind boggling.

As you know Mike, I've been trying really hard to give Chris the benefit of the doubt in the hopes that the new addition(s) to the coaching staff would provide him with the support he needs. I had been willing to give him another year, but I'm no longer feeling that way. Even if I were to overlook his lack of coaching acumen, its very hard for me to overlook his lack of hiring(a balanced staff) and management skills. This program just feels like a rudderless ship.

And I bet that while part of Matt A was saying hey it's great to have this level of autonomy, another part of him was thinking hey this place is a mess I gotta get out of here before the thing burns to the ground.

Not sure how I feel in total about Mack and SJU but hard to blame a kid for decommitting from a program with such an unstable coaching situation.

Mike, I remember you posting on here before the NCAA tournament began that there was a rumor on Twitter that Bobby Hurley was going to be the next St Johns coach. At the time, I said that the person was delusional. Now, if you are Matt, what do you do? Stay and hope the rumors are false or go with a coach that you have previously worked for, who has offered you a three year contract. It seems as if some posters on here just enjoy taking potshots at Matt. To me, and I admit that I am a friend of his, he appeared to work very hard to bring talent to the program.

Panther I've been known to take my potshots and I have my legit reasons but I don't fault him for going. Of course Chris at best had 1 year left. He was getting a fresh start with a successful coach he has a track record of. The initial guarantee is great for him but also its safe to say he's looking a much longer term job situation than he would have had here.

Actually I knew about it during the big east tourney but didn’t post it because my friend from this site who doesn’t post rumors told me abd our of respect to him and how he found out it wouldn’t have been right to put what he heard directly from someone close to things out there. In regards to Matt I don’t blame him for what he did. I might not like some of the stuff that went down over the last 4 years but he was our only recruiter and at the end of the day I have no problem with him looking out for himself. If Mullin had another recruiter it wouldn’t have even been an issue
