At Nova is a rough task.

So far, what’s impressed me the most is our ability to take a punch. It won’t happen all year but answering a run with a clutch basket is huge.

Coaching is so important. Pitino aside, the team is prepared and makes adjustments. Masiello and co constantly teaching during the game

Effort. Some times it’s that simple. Ledlum going after rebounds. All effort. So much so, we have 2 players fighting over the ball at some points.

Win or lose I’m proud of this group from the top down

Here is the intangible potential i see in Brady. Don't mix examples as talent comparisons.

Jay Wright had guysnhe called coaches on the floor. Specifically said that about Arch amd Gillespie. Guys who knew what to do and more specifically what the coach wanted without Wright saying it.

Watch Brady away from action, at ft's or any breaks in action. He makes sure he is near the bench to receive instructions. He then returns to where he should be on the court. He is so coachable that he imstinctively makes sure he can hear as much as Rick has to say during the game.

Right now much of it has to do with Brady and not the team. Right now he is soaking up instruction.

Im going to bet he develops quickly into a team leader who is a coach on the floor, who can direct others to. The first step in leadership is knowing hierarchy and Brady knows he is a frosh on a team of 5th year players.

Coaches love kids like this who want to learn and bust it in practice to earn time on the court.

Of course he is a deadeye shooter. There will be days he shoots 1-8 and days he shoots 7-8. As long as everything else is in place - good shot selection, defense, scrapping for looseballs, active under rim, a 6'7 guard who isnt a plodder presents problems for opponents.

He will continuento grow as an asset and maybe blossom into a star here.
Agree nurture him, don’t rush him based on last night, but use him strategically. As you noted a safe bet is he continues to develop and is a potential star. Rick developed Luck Hancock into a very solid college player and trust he could do same w Brady with nurturance, instruction and added strength.

Taking a punch was something we couldn't do the first two weeks of the season. Huge improvement on that end.

My lone nit to pick is that this team can string together some really loose possessions when they get up by double digits. If I see it, CRP sees it and will look to reign it in.

RJ's ability to get to the hoop is really going to help spacing and open looks at 3 at some point very soon. Both Ledlum and DJ have played more under control lately. RJ will follow the same path. He has some ability that is just unteachable.

A few games ago I said that Jenkins' flaws were correctable and if he could play more under control, he could be a force. The last couple of games he has played much more under control and has been a force. Hopefully he just gets better and better as the seaon progresses.

He has the size, athleticism and skill sets to be an excellent basketball player. Having said that , I would like him taking a few less 3s per game. Preferably only when he's wide open and his feet are set.
I just checked, and in case you were wondering, Marillac did not “like” your post.😀

This is why i thought it was a bit odd when Ledlum was receiving so much criticism earlier this season. Shooting can slump, but tenacity doesn't.

  • First 1/3 of the season has shown that Pitino is a masterclass in utilizing every ounce of his roster and having everyone engaged while on their tip toes. Accountability, discipline and humility has been instilled and in turn we are becoming a sustainable, nightly improving product, it couldn't be more refreshing. Taylor is a cog as a starter for 2 months, he plays 30 seconds out of principle and the team wins easily in a critical game.

  • Our defense will dictate our success. The team is offensively polished, when they work off each other on falling back into a matchup zone and know each other's spots like the back of their hand is when we truly become dangerous. The press is getting much better. As we know we have a coaching advantage every night.

  • Personnel wise the guys are really starting to mesh. What I like most is the resiliency to overcome runs and punch right back. Having a senior laden core has been fun as a fan and it is a pleasure to watch Ledlum and Soriano crash the glass together.

  • The next 11 games are a bear, 3/4 on the road upcoming, if we finish this stretch 6-5 (16-9, 8-6) with a soft landing to close out conference play I think we can start booking our March calendar.

  • Lastly tip of the cap to the Jamaica crowd last night, it was vintage Carnesecca. It was a premature error to go to UBS this early in Pitino's tenure and a damn shame that we don't have a true homecourt advantage for DePaul and Hall.

Beat Nova!

Don't worry. Fan reactions are game to game. As soon as he sucks in a loss, he will get trashed again - as will every single player and coach.
But he made a huge adjustment to his play. How many times did he have one of those rumbling drives to the basket that inevitably got blocked or thrown carelessly at the rim? I didn't remember one.

Just watched this whole thing. The name “Glenn Taylor” was never uttered during this press conference. Fascinating. It’s something that every St. John’s fan during the game was wondering, and yet a journalist couldn’t ask a very simple question.

Braziller tweeted at me last night that Dunlap took Taylor’s minutes. Rick never said that. In fact, braziller literally put the words in ricks mouth by asking “hey Rick was it just that brady had a great week in practice?” why ask a question if you're just going to answer it yourself

And even if Brady had a great week in practice, it’s still a valid question to ask why he got all of Taylor’s minutes, and not an assortment of Taylor/Ledlum/Luis minutes. (Especially with Ledlum not at 100%)

Sigh

It’s not that I really care anymore or that I think it was a bad move (we won handily so that’s not the issue) its just fascinating that no one in that room had the balls to ask about what happened to Taylor tonight. Instead we get questions like “hey Rick you’re 2-1 in big east, are you encouraged?”

If Curbelo was there with his popcorn he would've asked the question.

I’m also curious about Taylor and wanted that question asked! He’s been such a clear positive player to me in games that I’m almost sure it had to be something with practice or off the court. Great to see him with a great attitude on the bench and putting in work after though. Regardless of last night he’s going to be an important piece moving foward.
