Butler, Tue., Jan. 2, 8:30p, FS-1

Taylor was very engaged on the bench and honestly that impressed me just as much as any of the players on the court. Gotta love team first players
My guess is Pitino pulled him aside this week and asked him how he’d feel about letting Brady take his minutes so he could get some confidence in a favorable matchup.

Everything I’ve seen from Taylor tells me he’d be completely on board with it. I think he’s a 2024-25 captain.

I could totally see him being a captain next year.

Did any notice that after the foul on Dunlap on the inbounds for Butler that he took steps to deliver the inbounds pass? Or does the inbounded still have the run of the baseline?
The foul was committed prior to the ball being inbounded after a made shot so he can still run on the baseline (I guess) as I didn’t see anyone on our bench complain,

I really hope this is what happened

Unfortunately this sickening St John’s PTSD I have from all the “conduct detrimental to the team” suspensions we’ve had over the years here has me feeling like it’s something negative that happened

Butler is a team that plays with traditional 5s that don’t step out and shoot. That plus Posh being a non shooter definitely helped us pack it in and take away the driving lanes.

Going to be completely different on Saturday. Villanova will probably have 5 guys that can shoot on the floor at all times and will be able to spread us out which has been when the D has really struggled. We’ll see just how improved the D is on Saturday

Anyone there know what Matta said to get ejected?
In my section we were trying to figure it out. The play itself (pass inside to Ledlam who made a nice move and scored) didn’t seem controversial (no travel or offensive foul). Must have been from the previous play on the other end and was probably building.

Pitino's substitution decisions in this one had me throwing things at the TV screen. 21 pts on an efficient 50% from the floor carrying us at ubs and 17 pts on an efficient 50% from the floor tonight. 15 assists to 1 turnover last two! Pre Stockton All-time NBA assist leader Mark Jackson didn't put up numbers like this. Have we ever had a point putting up these kind of numbers? Show me. I owe Brady an apology. Great shooting numbers tonight a big factor in the win and I've been tough on him. Congratulations! Still, his shot is too flat. Time to learn more arc is now, as a freshman. Joel better watch the taunting and hanging on the rim. I sense a critical tech coming soon to an arena near you. Good bounce back game for him. Luis is exciting as all heck.

Yes, if the foul is committed before the ball is inbounded you do not lose the option to run the baseline.

I get over hyping guys but Luis has played 30 college games, averaged a little over playing half a game in those 30 games. I know the pros draft on potential, and since I haven’t really watched a whole pro game in way more than a decade I have no clue whether he would be drafted or not. But if he is, we would be losing potential at this point, not production.
Great plays do not make great players, consistency playing great does. Me, I would like to see him play a wee bit more before mentioning him in the same breath as Doctor J, who was an all-time great not because of his off the charts highlight reel but because he was also a night in night out great, consistent, fundamentally sound team player.

The prosecution rests :) shout out to the fans who did the right thing tonight

Jack,
It's very clear Posh loved his time here and he got a very affectionate if not thunderous welcome home. He acknowledged the ovation 5 or 6 times by raising his arms to different sections around the arena.

He didn't get cheered on made shots but had a very good first half.

Yesterday i suggested he get booed out of respect, which is what Met fans did to Piazza on his return to NY as a Padre (I was there). The entire second half, Posh was booed (warmly?) every time he touched the ball.

Soriano and Posh shared a very long hug at the post game handshake - lots of love between these two.

Nice night for Posh. I don't recall a transfer out being treated as warmly on their return but not sure if we ever had a starter transfer to big east team, and of course he didn't have to sut out a year.

I would say, as I thought during junior year, is the added weight (not fat) has cost him the lightning quickness we saw as a freshman. He played a solid game but wasn't really any better than the guys we have now.
