While I'd love another crack at SH, oddly, I think we're better off as the 6. Depaul should be another win, which can't hurt and gets us to the next BET round, whereas a loss to SH (certainly possible) almost definitely knocked us out. I will go with the sure thing over bravado...Providence beats Nova would drop us to #6 seed. Not sure if I like being the 5 or the 6 seed. As the 6 we would get another game vs DePaul followed by Creighton. As the #5 it looks like we would be Seton Hall followed by UConn
I would also rather see us get the 6 seed rather than the 5 in the Big East Tournament because it would also keep us from being bracketed with Uconn in the quarter-finals.How important is it to have a resume that has 20 wins on it? If it is important, then is it better we play Wed night to guarantee that 20th win?
If it turns out that way , I don’t think Playing DePaul takes much out of us . Especially with our depth . We could almost coast like a scrimmage .I want to stay home Wednesday, finally. It’s my annual dream. And then beat Seton Hall we are in, and if we can’t beat them again, whatever. They are not UConn.
I get it and that bravado is very appealing, but the goal now is to win games and get a bid, not try to prove a pint and risk a loss. JMHO.I want to stay home Wednesday, finally. It’s my annual dream. And then beat Seton Hall we are in, and if we can’t beat them again, whatever. They are not UConn.
I do not consider beating Seton Hall as some type of issue. You have to play someone. Creighton obliterated them last night, just because they were off last Sunday doesn’t make me want to play them, or Marquette, etc.I get it and that bravado is very appealing, but the goal now is to win games and get a bid, not try to prove a pint and risk a loss.
Beating them certainly helps our cause.I do not consider beating Seton Hall as some type of issue. You have to play someone. Creighton obliterated them last night, just because they were off last Sunday doesn’t make me want to play them, or Marquette, etc.
I think of every first Thursday game possible they are the easiest. And beating DePaul again would be nothing more than some type of overpriced exhibition game.
If we can't beat Seton Hall in a must-win after losing to them twice, we probably shouldn't be in the tournament. I totally agree.I do not consider beating Seton Hall as some type of issue. I don't get SH so low....Updated NCAA NET Rankings for Big East teams as of 2/29:
UConn: 4
Marquette: 11
Creighton: 12
Villanova: 32
St. John’s: 40
Providence: 56
Xavier: 62
Seton Hall: 64
Butler: 68
Georgetown: 207
DePaul: 319
Dreadful ooc scheduleI don't get SH so low....
And as they mentioned on the broadcast last night, 3 of the losses were by 3 points or less! Yikes.SJ had dreadful stretch w losing 8 of 10,
Hopefully things are a little different this year. RP said one of the most difficult things at Iona or any small/mid-major was having to win the end of season tournament to get in the NCAA T. Everything hinged on the tournament so RP knows how to get his team ready for end of season tournaments. I know that we are all aware of SJ's history. Hoping somethings start to change now.We have been hearing the same mantra for years about being the team no one wants to play in the BET. Hasn't worked out so far. If I have learned one thing about SJU basketball since the long drought started is to assume no game is an automatic win and to take things one game at a time.
