What if we beat Providence and Seton Hall beats Nova? Does the rule of not beating a team three times (particularly when the two wins were each by one point) turn around and bite us? Is Seton Hall rated just low enough that our second tournament win still doesn't get us over the hump?

There's no way Georgetown should be ahead of us. They are 17-13 with an 8-10 record in the Big East. They lost to Seton Hall twice and to Northeastern (which is 11-21). Those are three bad losses that should cancel out their good wins against Michigan State and/or Creighton.

Not because it currently benefits us, I rely on the only guy with an incredible track record with this "stuff", Lunardi. This is all the guy does.

I may be stating or asking the obvious. We're not our two Villanova a losses close? And in at least one game we were not at full strength?
I hope we get to play them a third time!

All the best

Has not seton hall lost a handful of very close games?
On a good day they could win their game(s)...

or is that on a "clear day" which I suppose means in a schoolyard w/ Julio, not within the dark confines of MSG.
:)
All the best

I don't think Georgetown is going to beat Creighton. I hope not anyway.

I hope so also, because that means we beat Providence.

Does Xavier losing to Marquette benefit us (assuming Georgetown loses, and we beat Providence)? I'm wondering if that would effectively knock them out and give us a better shot, because I can't see a way only 2 teams from the BE are chosen.

The expert on Cbs sports network( sorry didnt catch his name) has Prov in, Gtown first 4 out- STJ nowhere to be found. Puzzling, as Gtown played the same conference schedule and won 8, and STJ won 10.

Gottdweeb?

Definitely Palm...That POS hasn't given us any recognition all year long. I don't even read his garbage anymore.

This is 100% true. It's ridiculous the lengths he goes to in order to downplay our season.

Other than Nova and Creighton, Georgetown has the best resume of the rest of the mediocrities in the Big East. Look at the comparative records of Xavier, Providence, SJU and Georgetown against top 25 and top 50 competition.

Georgetown's problem is that they don't have quite enough wins. However if they get to 19 then they have a better case than SJU or Providence at 22. That's why every analyst has them in better position than SJU or Providence and close to Xavier.

IMO the BE could go anywhere from 2-4 teams. Xavier needs one win, SJU, Providence and Georgetown all need 2. If none of the four second-level teams get what they need, it ought to be a 2-bid league (though the NCAA might have to take another one just because they have to fill the field).

I think it will come down to whether SJU or Providence can knock off Nova. I'm predicting Georgetown to march to the finals and Xavier to flame out. That would ultimately make the league bids Nova, Creighton, and Georgetown. Add SJU or Providence if one of them beats Nova.

Every analyst?

Lawman thinks he's an analyst.
Does his opinion count?

It's all he does...but I'd compare his bubble in December to the one on the Saturday before selection Sunday. Anyone can make changes as they go along to make it come out in the end.

I agree with lawmanfan that we may only get two or three teams in. Just win out and end the speculation!!

Obviously. Was only comparing him to other prognosticators.

Getting in two or three teams wasn't techically the basis of the discussion nor the disagreement, per other posters. LMF mentioned, G'town as being one of those teams. He also said, "every analyst" had them ahead of us, which isn't hardly true. Currently, I think most would have us in front of them when it comes to receiving a bid to the "dance." Of course, things can change over the next few days. But as of today, I believe we're ahead of them.

I'd certainly rather win out and end all speculation. No doubt about it! But I still believe 2 wins will do the trick for the Johnnies, and the Big East will receive 4 NCAA Tournament bids.

I think 22 wins gets us in.

Georgia Tech knocks off BC in OT in the first round of the ACC tournament. Nice little boost. Every bit helps.

Fordham won too. Dont' know how much it means though, they beat George Mason.
