BRACKETOLOGY, RPI, SOS

Providence is in now per lunardi, they deserve it more than us at the end of the day. They've been fighting all year with all their suspensions and injuries, and we decide to wake up in February with our full squad healthy. If we don't get in and providence does, they are the team I will root for the hardest, they are a great story.

What are the riveting arguments you guys can give for SJU to get an at-large bid then?

Its not about top 50 record....okay then, well our SOS is not as good as it's been in the past, we have an RPI in the 60s now, losses to depaul and penn state, 3-5 on the road....we really do not have much to hang our hats on.

Even in 2002 when we were a "bubble" team we won against Wake Forest, UConn, Miami, ND and BC twice....all NCAA teams. We were 20-11 entering the NCAAs and we got a 9 seed that year.

There is no body this year even close to that, the Big East is not as strong, we have a win against a good Creighton team and two bubble wins vs PC and GT.

What on the resume gets us in? I say leave no doubts and just win the Big east.

Our best argument going into last night was that we were the only team in the country to play six games against top ten RPI teams (top eight actually). We also had the #30 SOS, and no terrible losses. Depaul on the road in conference is bad but it's not terrible. Penn State doesn't look so bad after sweeping Ohio State and playing a respectable Big 10 season.

The RPI is killing us. If we won over Providence and won at Depaul and we'd be in the low 40's. The good news is that every game left will be a huge RPI boost. We must win at Marquette to get the RPI to the mid to low 50's depending on who loses. Then every game we can get on a neutral court in the B.E.T. will be HUGE.

We are just not getting a lot of help the last week. Everything that could have gone wrong...has gone wrong. The biggest challenge to us making the tournament outside of us winning is Gtown. We don't look good next to them and of course they have to go and knock off our biggest win to put themselves back next to us. Nova has to take care of business there. Win at Marquette to get back in the picture and then win a game on a neutral court to force a neutral court game against Creighton/Nova in the B.E.T. Then we are in barring an embarrassment in the third round.

That Providence win hurt us last night. Marquette beats PC, and PC is in danger of getting stuck on 19 total wins and 9-9 in the conference if they lose @Creighton on Saturday. Additionally it would have boosted Marquette, whom we control our own destiny against, and put us in position to finish ahead of both of these teams in conference with nothing more than a win on Saturday.

Now Providence is clearly ahead of us in the tournament pecking order. Would love to see them in the quarters of the BET as they are the conference bubble team we could benefit most from beating right now.

There are two scenarios where we could play providence first round (3/6 game, or 4/5 game) and if we belong in the tournament ahead of providence we will beat them in that game, that's all.

Agree completely. We should want providence now to prove we belong over them. If we can beat Marquette and then win a head to head matchup v providence, a win v creighton or nova will get us in, regardless of BET finals outcome.

Shot ourselves in the foot experimenting with lineups deep into January.

This is as disappointed as I have been in years simply based on all of the potential this team has.

It's not over til it's over.

But, an NIT bid, this year with this squad, is a true low point as I've felt over the past decade for this school.

That is absolutely false.

The NIT is a distinct underachievement...unless we win the thing. I don't know how likely winning it all would be.

I would find it hard to celebrate winning the NIT.

The kids would probably love it. But meh.

Well said. PC had tremendous challenges losing players, going with razor thin rotation and depending so much on Iron Man Cotton. Great job by Cooley.

I didn't realize you were a member of the Committee and could declare an opinion as absolutely false when their decisions are subjective!

If we win the games I suggested, we finish 22-12, including going 12-4 in our last 16 with 2 wins over top 10-15 teams in the nation, and 2 out of 3 head to head wins with fellow bubble team PC. Of course our inclusion depends on other conference tourneys and bubble teams throughout the country, but our RPI would likely be in the 40s if this happens, SOS perhaps in the 20s, and we'd be very likely to make it.

Would frankly have a hard time watching it.

I've been preaching that scenario since we lost to Xavier. Lunardi has said similar, if I'm not mistaken. Steve Lappas also assumed we'd make the dance, based on that same analysis.

Could I, you (thakid), Lunardi, and Lappas be wrong? Sure, there is a chance. But the tourney takes into consideration how well a team is playing down the stretch, as well as RPI and SOS. If that scenario plays out, then I feel we could end up being a 10th or 11th seed.

Of course, I'd rather just win the Big East Tournament, and end any speculation. But I'd feel fairly, comfortable under the scenario, as long as there aren't too many upsets or bubble teams advancing too far or winning their conference tournaments.

I'd also like to see Providence next week at the Garden.

That's too bad that you think that way.

Tennessee and Arkansas both extremely convincing tonight, especially Arkansas.

Army hits a jumper with 13 seconds left, and knock off bucknell in quarterfinals of the patriot league conference tournament, 72-71

Wagner, a two seed in their conference tournament, won and advance to the semifinals against St Francis (NY).
