BRACKETOLOGY, RPI, SOS

DePaul just beat SH easier than either of our two games . SJU has scored 107 points in their last two games. If the players are thinking DePaul is a game to relax about then the season is officially over.

We dont need to worry about the next two games. I say save Obeka if he needs rest. We aint going anywhere unless we WIN the BE tournament. Look at it this way. Nova and Creighton are in, Xavier has to be picked over us. I dont see the BE getting more than 4 bids. So that means we have to get the 4th bid or bust unless we win the BE. It aint happening guys, this team doesnt have what it takes. They have crumbled all year. The loss to Penn State and D'lo missing the free throw in regulation is typical of this team. The loss to Cuse when we had them on the ropes, we couldnt close the deal. Same with the Nova loss in Philly. I can go on but why. It isnt new, we see it year in and year out as our hopes get crushed. I would like nothing more than to see us get into the ncaa but it is time to take off the rose colored glasses and look reality in the eye. To paraphrase a song from the Righteous Brothers- We've lost that winning feeling
I disagree w you if theBE gets 4 in ,we want to be the 4 th team ,that's why every game is important. Like many have said, if we win today and against Marquette and loose in the finals of The BE tourney we would be a lock. We could probably win 1 less game and get in.

If we beat Marquette and then Prov. in the Big East 4 vs 5 game that should make us number 4 as far as Big East bids . Barring a 6 to 12 team winning the tournament it may be a long shot but still a possibile bid depending on the other conference winners and other bubble teams credentials.

The selection committee doesn't think that way. They don't say the big east gets 4 so the upset conference wining team takes the 4th bid.

No but they also don't guarantee four teams from the Big East. Although that would really seem unfair, given the RPI of the conference.

In my opinion:

W vs. Marquette + 1 in the BET = 50/50 % chance.
W vs. Marquette + 2 in BET = 80/20
L vs. Marquette + 2 in BET = 60/40

The Marquette win is really important because it gives us a winning record in the conference.

The topic should be amended to read "Big East Title or Bust"

As i posted in the Depaul game thread, i just do not see how the selection committee can justify taking a marginal team who is 1-7 against the top 50. Of course it would be great if I am wrong, but we have really put lipstick on the pig by beating up on a soft out of conference schedule and going - vs the bottom 4 of the Big East.

Our NCAA resume' is not really overwhelming and had we won the Villanova and Xavier games we would really have a much better case which would put us at 3-4 vs the top 50 PLUS a possible 3rd place Big East finish.

The Marquette game is not even a must win to me because all of our eggs are in one basket which is the Big East Tournament. I think we can win the Big East because Nova and Xavier beating us three times in one season would be very tough for them....and i think we match up very well with Creighton.

I also think that if we made it to the semi finals we would enjoy a HUGE advantage with the crowd at MSG. The Big East tournament has been dominated by the Cuse and UConn fans and with them out of the mix now, we can really take over MSG with the fans.

This is it our kids have to go out and earn it. I hope they do because it would be really special watching this team in the NCAA Tournament.

As of right now Lunardi has Providence and St. Johns as "Last Four In"

What I believe would be best for us right now is that Marquette beats Providence on Tuesday. The loss might knock Providence into First Four Out.

Then St. John's can top off a 20-game-win season by beating Marquette on Saturday.

more importantly for people too lazy to figure out like myself are we locked in on a potential seeding yet for the BET ?

Nah, we're not locked in yet when it comes to conference tournament seeding. We can't finish any lower than 6th, but we can still finish, as high as 4th.

If we beat Marquette, we can't finish worse than fifth. If we lose, we probably finish sixth. That would mean having to possibly beat Xavier, Villanova and Creighton.
If we win the next three games it means likely beating Villanova another quality win and going to the finals. I think if Creighton or Xavier is in the finals we can probably lose and have a chance to still make the NCAA, as we box out every other Big East team(Marquette,Providence and Georgetown). If someone else makes the finals, I think we need to win that game.

22 wins would make us a lock.

getting wins in big east tournament will not be easy. our first game will be against xavier, marquette or providence. with nova or creighton likely looming in the next round.

I, probably wouldn't wanna play Marquette in the Big East Tournament, if we beat them in the last regular season game. They'll have the factor of us just recently beating them, and the odds of beating them 3 times in one season. That is the reason why I wouldn't particularly mind if we played Xavier or Villanova again. Those two match up with us, but I feel it'll be tough for them to beat us 3 times this season. If a team is just flat out better, then 3 times really isn't a problem. IMO, we're not too far off from each of those teams.

Of course, it'll be tough, but I still feel we can get two wins in the Big East Tournament, regardless of the opponent.
Agree beating same team that is about equal with us 3X is difficult but since game is basically for any chance at NCAA think that negates that aspect to a large extent. And as Lou used to say- HEY, YOU CAN'T PICK YOUR SPOTS!

Completely agreed on Marquette, MJD, if we were to beat them on Saturday. Playing a team twice in a week, trying to beat them for a third time in the same season, against a coach the caliber of Buzz is less than ideal.

If I were drawing it up, I'd probably like to see PC in the quarters. Not that a W there is any kind of easy road, as we know, I just think they are the best matchup for us in that spot, all considered. Then I'd prefer to see Nova in the semis. Just the reverse of Marquette, I like that they'd be trying to pick up W #3 against us this year, which is always tricky. I don't dislike the matchup with Creighton, but we already got them once, and I have a feeling that team in particular - and their fans - are going to be extra geeked up to win this tourney this year because of the novelty factor.

The only team I don't want to see in the BET is X. Even despite the same "3rd win" caveat, I just think they are a bad matchup for us with all of their beef up front, their length on D, and their ability to grind the game to a half-court halt. We're 17 games into the conference slate, and they are the only team that was able to completely control the game against us both times out. I don't think we are incapable of knocking them off, I would just prefer to avoid them. Uncomfortable matchup for us.

Lunacy, Gtown has 12 losses and will have 13 by selection time. 12/13 is the boarder for getting in, in all the years of watching.
Johnnie's can only have one more loss the rest of the way or it's over.

Lunardi just updated his, has us listed under First 4 out.

He has Minnesota ahead of us in his Last in. The gophers are 7-10 in conference and have lost 4 of six. No way they get in over us.
