BRACKETOLOGY, RPI, SOS

DePaul just beat SH easier than either of our two games . SJU has scored 107 points in their last two games. If the players are thinking DePaul is a game to relax about then the season is officially over.

Pretty good night for St. John's last night:

-Richmond took a bad loss against George Mason
-Nebraska was in a "need to win out" type scenario before last night's loss to Illinois
-NC State came dangerously close to getting right back in the conversation losing to UNC in OT
-Baylor missed their opportunity to get a bid locking win against Texas

Some how Lunardi has us at the very last team with a 62 RPI

Our RPI dropped 10 spots with the Xavier loss?

Of course. And Xavier jumped 14 spots up.

Can't lose home games. The home losses gets multiplied by 1.4 in the RPI formula

Actually ESPN has is at 62. The actual NCAA hasn't updated theirs yet. This day in age and the NCAA only updates their RPI once a week?

Jerry Palm at CBS Sports has our RPI in his daily update at 63.

From Lunardi today

St. John's Red Storm

The Red Storm (18-11, RPI 63, SOS 30) and Providence have each won on the other's court. It could be we see an elimination game between the two at the Big East tournament. Conveniently that would also be a home game for St. John's, but it was Tuesday's home loss to Xavier that made this much harder than necessary.

What they need: Same as Providence. The Red Storm need three more wins, regardless of opponent or location.

3 more wins = play in game
4 more wins = safely in the field

There is no such thing as play in games anymore guys, no matter what you choose to believe if they are part of the field of 68 they are in the dance.

Lunardi thinks we get in with 3 wins no matter who they are against and we are out if we don't get them. He says the same for Providence. I'm not sure I believe that as I don't think we really earned it but I hope he's right and that awful loss on Monday didn't end our season.

I thought we would win the Big East tourney after the Georgetown game but that seems like light years ago now.

3 wins is no walk in the park. If we play like we did 2 weeks ago we should get it, if we play like we did against Xavier we won't. Which team will show up?

First, it says exactly what was posted earlier in the thread, or on some other thread.

Second, Tuesday's loss was only awful to those that were watching it, or in my case reading the game thread while at work. To the selection committee it's a loss, unfortunately at home, but to a top 50 team. Not a bad loss in their eyes. In their eyes the only "bad losses" so far are Penn St and DePaul, It'll be the lack of quality wins that will keep this team out of the tourney. 1-7 vs. top 50, 4-2 vs. 51-100, 13-2 vs 100+. Solid NIT record at this point. I still feel like they need to make the BE Final which would likely mean 2 more good wins, maybe one very good win, to get in, but finishing the regular season 11-3 in the last 14 could be helpful.

Bubble Teams playing tonight:

Arkansas (18-9, RPI 71) at Kentucky. 7 p.m., ESPN

FIU at Southern Miss (23-5, RPI 36). 7 p.m.

Georgetown (16-11, RPI 64) at Marquette (16-11, RPI 75). 9 p.m., Fox Sports 1

Gonzaga (23-6, RPI 28) at Pacific. 10 p.m., ESPNU

Oregon (18-8, RPI 42) at UCLA, 11 p.m., ESPN2

Who we need to root for to increase our RPI:

Wagner needs to beat St. Francis (Pa.)
Game Info: 7:00 PM

Penn State needs to beat Ohio State
Game Info: 7:00 PM | TV: ESPN2

Fordham needs to beat Virginia Commonwealth
Game Info: 7:00 PM | TV: CBS Sports Network

San Francisco needs to beat Pepperdine
Game Info: 10:00 PM

Thank you, and out of all these games we really need Oregon to lose.

UCLA suspended Jordan Adams and Kyle Anderson for tonight's game for violation of team rules.....that sucks for us....

Southern Miss and Arkansas leading in their games is not helping either.....

For a win in the BET, that should be factored as a “home” game for SJU, no home court advantage when all the schools get allocated the same number of seats.

That does suck, hopefully UCLA still pulls it out. Southern Miss won, but against an awful team, it doesn't do much for the. Arkansas is the big one, currently up by 2 with 27 seconds left in OT.

Surprised Lunardi launched Arkansas into the field, fellow espn analysts had the following to say about Arkansas before the game even happened:

1. Does Arkansas need to beat Kentucky to get into the bubble conversation?

Andy Katz: Yes. And even then, I don't see how Arkansas gets in the field. The Hogs have hardly been a team of consistency. A sweep of Kentucky would at least give Arkansas something to shout about. LSU nearly did it but blew the game at Rupp.

Eamonn Brennan: At the outside. Even then, it's not like the Razorbacks' profile is going to look great. Their chances have more to do with an ever-softening bubble, where teams like Missouri utterly refuse to finish the job.

Myron Medcalf: Arkansas' résumé won't be overwhelming even if it sweeps Kentucky. Two wins over the Wildcats, a neutral-site victory over Minnesota and a November win against SMU won't guarantee anything for Mike Anderson's program. But the bubble is so soft, anything could happen.

Our lack of Top 50 wins will be our demise.

The OOC schedule was Lavin's "smartest man in the room" strategy and it will end up burning us.

We played the first half of the season without any game planning whatsoever and it showed in all of the close losses and moral victories.

Disgusting.

Played Syracuse and Wisconsin Neutral site.

Two power conference teams g-tech and penn state and a good mid major bucknell.

Your a joke

2/5 victories out of the weakest teams there.

Save your joke comments. We played all of those teams without any gameplan whatsoever.

Why Wagner? Why San Fran? Lavin's strategy was to hope these teams would win their conference and thus give us an RPI boost.

We played Darthmouth in January. In January, Georgetown played Michigan State on our home court. Huge difference.

Facts are facts. We have a good SOS but there are bubble teams out there with more quality wins than us. That is ultimately what will count.

People being stuck thinking 3 more wins gets us somewhere are only setting themselves up for disappointment.
