BRACKETOLOGY, RPI, SOS

Lunardi picks at a high percentage because he changes it every day. This team has no shot at the NCAA unless it wins the BET. So far, this choke special doesn't deserve more than the NIT...another tournament it has no chance of winning.

Of course he changes it everyday, it's a daily snapshot of the bubble situation...which changes every day.

After last night's game I jumped ship. Hence the name of this topic but looking at the bubble below us, I think it's still slightly doable without the automatic bid.

Does anyone know how ties are broken in the conference standings if two teams have split with each other? St. John's and Georgetown could both be 10-8 at the end. Who would be the higher seed?

It would then be decided on who has beaten the first place team and so on. So, if G'town loses to Creighton again, and end up tied with us at 10-8, then we get the nod over them since we have beaten Creighton. If G'town beats Creighton, and we both end up at 10-8, then it'll move to who has beaten Villanova.

Thanks. Georgetown would have to beat Nova, Creighton and at Marquette for them to go 10-8 so I don't see that happening.

So that would mean we would be 6th seed?

Frankly, I think we'll end up being the 4th seed, if we end up at 10-8. I see Marquette, Providence, G'town, and even, Xavier all dropping another game or two.

Marquette remaining schedule:
vs. G'town
@ Villanova
@ Providence
vs. Johnnies

Providence remaining schedule:
@ Seton Hall
vs. Marquette
@ Creighton

G'town remaining schedule:
@ Marquette
vs. Creighton
@ Villanova

Xavier remaining schedule:
vs. Creighton
@ Seton Hall
vs. Villanova

I can easily see all of those teams losing two more games. We could luck out and still get the 3rd seed, if things break our way.

Team has played to inconsistently Point in case We lose by 9 to a great Wisc team . lose by 6 to #1 Cuse .lose to Prov in ot by1 split with Creighton losing by 3 last second and win by think 7 .Nova lose by 3..
Point is we could have won these games with just a little bit of better play at critical times during those games I know it is bad but looking at it, team was very competitive and yes we could have had a special yr So I do not want to trample on the coach and or team I think the future looks bright

Would you factor in we could have lost both Seton Hall games as well? Fair is fair.

I dont buy the "emotional letdown after nova" excuse. We just played poorly, as we did in the nova game.

We have no go-to scorer...

On both counts I agree 100%. Harrison can light it up or he can totally bomb. I kept waiting for him to turn it on last night and he never did.

They let a road team come in a dictate the pace and no one can score in a half court set. Their offense becomes dribbling and passing around the top of the key until someone tries to take it to the rim with 10 seconds left on the shot clock.

I really think the book on playing defense against St. John's is to not worry about getting your own second chance points and dropping everyone back as soon as your shot goes up. St. John's isn't going to shoot much better than 35% in a half court type of game.

Or other teams have discovered that if you defend D'Angelo as a priority, the rest of the offense is unreliable.

agreed, but lets not excuse D'Angelo. He's been brutal this season, espcially in the big-game. He's getting some open looks, and just not converting.

Brutal?
Yeah his last 2-3 games have been bad. Very bad. But he's putting up pretty much the same numbers give or take a couple % points that he has in all 3 years.

* People say he doesnt want the ball at the end. But then he takes shots and misses and he's criticized. If you are an opposing coach and you let Dee go off you should be fired. He should be priority numero uno for every team and its clear if you take him out of the game we usually fold like a house of cards.

He's shooting 37% on the season. outside of the gtown game where he played well, his last 5 games he's shooting a combined 14-51.

And those are the same numbers pretty much he's put up all 3 years is the point. He is not an All American. He cannot carry the team on his back. I've said for years in college you need 3 consistent scorers to win on most night. Provided scoring stays in the 60's-low 70's. On those rare occasions scoring jumps into the 80's a 4th person needs to step up.

I agree with you. The big problem to me is that it appears that this team still has not learned the value of a possession. It doesn't show in hustle for loose balls. It doesn't show in boxing out. It doesn't show in not taking the first available shot and continuing to probe the defense for a better look. They have not shown that they understand where our shots should come from. They have not shown an understanding of time and score.

Harrison's last great game was at Nova last yr.....You cant win if you cant score...He must take less shots.....SJ has to score inside first......then outside...Last nite Stainbach was unstoppable, early, and .how is it that an unheralded freshman can put up 17 pts 16 rebounds....The inside game must improve on offense and defense..Still think ncaa is possible with road win at Marquette..and 2 more in B.E. tourney..

I'd like to think that 22 wins gets us in, if we are very lucky possibly 21 but we would need the conference tournaments to be chalk and some of these bubble teams to continue losing (which I think is possible given their schedules).

Distressingly true.

Harrison is the only player on the team who gets playing time who would be considered a better than average or good shooter and he is not quick enough to get clear when defended by a quick opponent.
To compound the problem none of the big men have an inside scoring game . This combo results in multi 25 points or less halves.

The name on this thread is misleading- getting to the BE final means nothing at this point. It is WIN THE BE FINAL OR BUST

I really don't see many scenarios where st. john's is not dancing with 21 wins.....

It's not just total wins. There is so much more that goes in to it than that.

21 wins would either put us in 3rd or 4th place in the 4th rated conference with a solid RPI and SOS...or it would mean we had a good big east tournament run where we beat a top 50 opponent or two.

Again, the bubble is weak as it always is. Barring a huge run of bubble bursters in the other conference tournys we will be in with 21 wins
