BRACKETOLOGY, RPI, SOS

"Tournament chances remain good: After Saturday’s loss, a number of so-called experts said St. John’s now needs to win the Big East tournament, a notion I find ludicrous.
Before the Villanova game, I felt the Johnnies had to win three of their four games to assure themselves of an at-large berth. Nothing has changed. If St. John’s wins out, beats Butler and DePaul at home and Marquette on the road, they will likely finish third in the conference, which in my opinion would assure Lavin’s team of a spot in the field of 68 despite just one win over a top 50 RPI opponent. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, known for his accurate mock Bracketology, has the Johnnies in as of now. The Big East is getting at least three teams, and most likely four, if not five, teams in the Big Dance.
Win two of the last three, and St. John’s has to play well in the conference tournament. Point is, the Red Storm have a manageable schedule. They control their own destiny."

He meant Xavier not Butler.

Bucknell beat BU today and Columbia beat Yale both helping our RPI. Nice season for the Lions so far. They also have the starting point guard at Molloy signed for next year.

But...but...Rothstein says our only shot is to win the BET.

(Hey, Dink, I'm only one karma behind you and you have 4x as many posts!) :ngrin:

LOL

That's only because some a douche or two (I have a very, good idea about the persons) doesn't care about my direct approach. Like I really care about it. That's childish.

Frankly, if I have one gripe about this board it's the karma rating. Really, it doesn't serve any purpose. It's like tits on a boar hog.... Useless.

Otherwise, Paul has done a great job with the board. Just rid it (the board) of the karma rating.
When I was reading your comparison of "it's like tits on a boar hog" thought the next word you typed was "unless" not "useless" was looking forward to your reasoning just in case cause hey you never know! :)

Unless my eyesight has gotten worse, we are not in
G'town and Providence are slated for "play in" games
We're not even one of the "first four out"

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology

I'd need an explanation on how Providence is that far ahead of us when we have the same record, same BE record, same wins vs rpi top 50, better SOS and better RPI.

Same with Georgetown, who although has a couple of more wins vs rpi top 50, has more losses, losing record in the BE, worse RPI and worse SOS.

I trust this guy-he's good.
Tomorrow's game is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've split with Creighton, PrOVIDENCE, G'town and beat Marquette at home, still play them again.

Won both against SH, Butler.

Lost both to Nova, home and away.

Have Xavier, DePAUL, AND Marquette left. Need all 3 in my opinion.

Of the three remaining, I think tomorrow's is the biggest. (1) Avoiding a sweep with Xavier, primary tournament competition from within the conference. But also (2) a win tomorrow sets us up for an opportunity to get to 20 v. DePaul this weekend (a team we have to beat), and I have a feeling that with all that is bound to shake out across the conference and country over the next 2 weeks, that scenario will take a lot of pressure off of the Marquette game for us. If we get these next two, I could see that game trending more towards "lock it up" or "lose and you need to do more work in the conference tourney", as opposed to "must-win or an at-large bid is off the table". Just my gut, but I think if we are sitting at 20 as of Sunday we'll be in a strong position to sit tight for a week, get ready for Marquette, and watch others fall off the bubble that last week of the season.

@StJohnsBBall: #SJUBB owns a current RPI of 53, with the 35th-toughest schedule in the nation (13-3 home; 3-5 road; 2-2 neutral). Official per @NCAAstats.

Agree that tomorrow is huge & with subsequent prognosis if we win.

I have been saying for a few weeks now I think we land in he 12 spot play in game. This team hasn't done enough to prove we deserve a spot, so the committee will make them show it by winning a game.

Per Lunardi, we are in a play in, and Xavier is in the last four byes, huge game.

Passing Xavier has been inevitable for about a month. They are like the fat kid on lap three of the mile that started too fast. It's always great when you can take out a team immediately on front of you on both the league standings and RPI/bubble.

Like 1512 wrote, it will feel great going against Depaul at MSG for magical win #20.

Well that pretty much does it. Can't lose a home game to a similar opponent this late. Maybe the bubble gets a little softer but it looks like we need to win two games in the BET with one of them being Creighton or Nova.
