Bobby Hurley

Everybody should move off the ledge! This is a involved negotiation involving many moving parts and several parties! It will happen when it happens!
Until we know something definitive about Hurley being out of mix, I will leave him on my “draft board” :)
Now, the whole Board is ‘smoking’ (does social media have wires?!?) in anticipation...what has Paultz heard?!!?

Nothing and that’s the point.

Wright has made it abundantly clear- he already has his dream job. He makes a tin, is revered, and job is rock solid

Thanks I'm sure you are correct....

How many coaches have said that before though?
He wont really be tested until coach K retires or Calipari leaves.

So far, it's still an open competition. If K died tomorrow, I'd actually bring Brey in as a bridge to a younger guy because I don't think any of the younger guys have done enough to take the throne. I think they'd all be crippled by the pressure.
I think it’d be Dawkins but yeah Dawkins or brey until one of the younger guys proves himself More.
Why would Brey want to leave ND to come here?
not saying he would and maybe a year early but sometimes coaches need new challenges
According to SNY reporters last night the rumor is Repole would be willing to pay for Hurley's buyout. There was also some debate regarding the hiring of Hurley or Mark Jackson. Some didn't like the idea of hiring another pro even though Jackson had experience coaching the Warriors. After Lavin was let go I felt Mark would work out for the Johnnies, especially since he was the floor leader/ coach for us and the Knicks. Oh well!
The buyout on our side and the other side are not an issue. Now if Az St offers big time more salary that could be an issue

Maybe the guy has heard ‘buzz’ and then writes a piece saying St. John’s will not lure Bobby away but ‘some day’ the Duke job will.
At any rate, I agree.
Hurley is staying put.
Onto Cluess, I hope.
It’s all hearsay and opinions at this point. Most college coaches aren’t Jim Calhoun btw. He’s an anomaly. I’ll trust that Cragg is doing his work as we speak and hopefully SJU fans are all happy when we get our pick. I’m not ready to concede Hurley just yet. SJU could be a very good job for him because there aren’t any decent big state university b-ball programs in NYC, and his brother is in the closest proximity to one, being in CT. SJU filled MSG to capacity this season several times. He could live in NJ right over the river if he likes and none of the cost of living etc would be at all too prohibitive. To say “it doesn’t makes sense” based on the writer’s priorities, is just myopic.

I don’t believe Hurley is the end-all, be-all regardless, but we have to be patient enough to see if Cragg gets his guy.

I guess.cragg doesn't mean when he said he wants sju to be elite and win championships.
Talk is cheap.
Don't sell Cragg short re Scheyer. He's known him for years and knows his abilities. We just ended a 4 year experiment with figurehead coaches that a total of 7 major games in 4 years. It is nice to remember wins against Duke, Syracuse and Villanova. It's a nightmare remembering losses to D2 teams, DePaul, Incarnate Word etc.

You could be right. Who knows?
But the timeline bothers me. It's been 48 hours since the Mullin news 'broke'.
Obviously, Cragg was working his network before that, lining candidates up, one of which was obviously BH.
Maybe when the Matt buzz was on fire and Cragg knew the deal and said something like: "we woke up with zero recruiters on the Staff?!?" And may have peaked with Mack's de-commit.
I'm guessing like a drunken sailor here, but you get my drift.
Hurley knew well before the 'breaking news' that Mullin was out and he knew that Cragg wanted to hire him.
He's conferred with his family, his dad, and very likely ASU before the news broke.
Meanwhile,we've heard nothing, but there's been AZ media reports that imply Hurley is staying put..
I take that buzz and the 'silence' on our end to mean Bobby has decided to stay in the desert.
I know nothing, but that's the way it seems to me.

'72, you know better than most on this Board the hurdles a neophyte HC would face to turn this damaged battleship around.
Scheyer may be as talented as advertised, but he represents a very risky hire to Cragg at this juncture imo.

He could be the guy, but it will take him yearssssss, 6-7?
If Bobby doesn't come, and forget Pitino?
Then the third guy on my list would be Matta, someone the elite kids heard of and know he's a top coach. I believe he could change things in 3-4yrs.
Yes, I'll admit, I'm very impatient.

Let him prove it at Kent State...not here.

Tell me the difference between Scheyer and Norm Roberts at the times they were considered? Norm supposedly learned from a legend too. Norm had many more years of experience as well.

You can’t serioulsy believe that scrub can rebuild the mess that will be left if he is announced. When has Coach ever rebuilt? When has Coach K ever had talent that was not top three in his conference. Our fans will turn on Scheyer from day one.

K and Scheyer couldn’t even beat St. John’s with two top ten picks last year.

Cluess and Scheyer are choices other Big East programs would hire for us if they could.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but how would you guys feel about Jamie Dixon being contacted? I can't see how he can show his face around TCU after what happened. If there was ever a good coach ripe for a change, he might be it.

#4, right behind matta, ahead of the others.

Only if someone can convince Cragg he worked at Duke for a year.

another problem we don’t need. Let’s get a coach who actually wants to be here.
