Assistant Coaches Arrested /Book Richardson is One

Played against his teams. His best team had Red Bruin and the Fleming brothers

Vern Fleming went to Mater Christi and then Georgia (beat us in the 83

(NCAA Tourny). Was Chris' teammate on the Gold Medal winning 1984 Men's Olympic Team. His twin brother Vic played high school ball for LIC and then went on to play college ball at Xavier.

Phil Smith (New Mexico) was on that team with Bruin and Fleming.

Not sure of the name, but was ( FNU) Johnson on that Mater Christi Team. I think he picked Marquette over SJU. They beat Holy Cross, in overtime, for the CHSAA title.

No, he was a f years later. HC had Glenn McMillan and Derek Scott.

"These allegations come as a complete shock to me," Pitino said in a statement released by his lawyer. "If true, I agree with the U.S. Attorney's Office that these third-party schemes, initiated by a few bad actors, operated to commit a fraud on the impacted universities and their basketball programs, including the University of Louisville. Our fans and supporters deserve better, and I am committed to taking whatever steps are needed to ensure those responsible are held accountable."

Thanks for the laugh....
That is Pitino's actual quote. Pitino should be dead by electrocution with all the times he has been "shocked" by scandals that involve him.

I saw that Mater Christi team play at Molloy. Tony Red Bruin was a great HS player. I don't remember who won but I remember it being very close. It was so crowded at Molloy with people set up with chairs on the stage.

Also saw MC play Tolentine. Tolentine had two big kids and they tried to double Bruin. I think Bruin had a pretty good game. Unfortunately for SJU he went to Cuse. He was a great HS player. If he was a little taller he would have had a better college career and been a pro. I think he was like 6 feet 5. He was killing HS guys in the post.

Setting himself up as a victim to win full support of fans. That said, would love to see it happen.

I don't like Pitino at all, but, never underestimate the guy. He is a street fighter in Brooks Brothers suit. He'll have PR and others helping to try and cover his a--.

I thought the same. However, Louisville press conference at 1 pm. Pitino apparently met with interim President this morning, was told he's terminated, and it lasted 5 minutes. He has a $44mm buyout clause if termed without cause. Something tells me this will be for cause.

I didn't mean he wouldn't be fired but its all about what's next and what does and doesn't "stick" to him. He will say he knew nothing. I would be shocked if he doesn't contest the loss of potentially $44MM without some sort of fight. I see the NBA in his future.

Louisville is just trying to save what already is a bonfire. They'll say once we were alerted we got rid of everyone responsible for monitoring. It won't work but they are angling for some/any way forward.

It's just weird to me that Pitino would have to cheat to the level he has. He's one of the greatest basketball minds of all time. You'd think that players would flock to him without getting paid.

The only bigger idiot would be if Cal is still cheating. Being a guaranteed first rounder after one year should be sufficient payment, right?

Completely agree. I think he got off easy when someone on his staff was providing services for women. I own a business and have several employees. Its on me whatever is done on my watch. I talk with them as well as my client contact daily. I am a mom and pop shop operation. These multi million dollar operations need to be held to the same level. He should have been fired a year ago.

What do you mean if????? Have you forgotten about Briscoe?????

What happens to the kids that took the money? Are they ineligible? Can they go pro immediately? What happens to the kids that didn't take the money? Are they still eligible? Can they transfer or go pro?

I'd like to see the NBA say that they'd permanently ban kids involved in this type situation. That's probably the only thing that could get this to stop.

A slightly different spin on the topic. http://nypost.com/2017/09/27/why-is-the-fbi-trying-to-enforce-ncaa-rules/

I wonder if the IRS gets involved claiming underpayment of taxes by the recipients?

During the Lavin years, when SJU lost a recruit to LSU, several of us posters would find the $ on their keyboard and allege payoffs. LSU was not mentioned. Hopefully the Big East schools will not be involved in the wider net that may be cast. As religious institutions, we would get more "heat" than most schools and/or leagues.

I predict the NCAA will take the following actions: Issue a one-year suspension of the assistant coaches listed in the indictment. No need to rock the gravy boat.

This investigation is by no means comprehensive, in fact it's just something the feds ran into by chance and the limited incidences identified are not the outliers of the overall system, they are just examples of what happens everywhere. So just because LSU was not mentioned dos not clear them nor any other school. LSU is a Nike school. This is essentially an Adidas investigation and a limited one at that. The fact that any of you believe that any of the schools in the Power 6 are entirely clean is so laughable. I bet you could uncover small time stuff at Northwestern, Vanderbilt and even lil' ol' STJ if you looked hard enough.

The end product of this is that the NCAA is going to have to completely rework their system, and kids will finally get paid out in the open. How they will control that will still eventually come into question since I still don't think they will be able to completely level the playing field.

PS - LJSA I admire your naivete.

Why would they have any interest in doing that? They are already in the business of paying their players?

I know cheating is rampant. I just find it odd that one of the best basketball minds of all time would need to cheat to this extent.
I would think that since everybody or almost everybody is cheating and paying money even the elite programs think they have to cheat to keep up. As an example it would be like should I play for Cal or Ricky for $150,000 or coach K for free (assuming for example purposes that K wasn't cheating).

FYI, there are now rumblings we are involved in the investigation.

Are you hearing this from the school or the feds?

He's hearing it from Avon. Rumor surrounds an assistant coach delivering Avon products to a transvestite recruit with the promise to only wear Avon makeup once he got to the NBA.
