Assistant Coaches Arrested /Book Richardson is One

A slightly different spin on the topic. http://nypost.com/2017/09/27/why-is-the-fbi-trying-to-enforce-ncaa-rules/

I wonder if the IRS gets involved claiming underpayment of taxes by the recipients?

During the Lavin years, when SJU lost a recruit to LSU, several of us posters would find the $ on their keyboard and allege payoffs. LSU was not mentioned. Hopefully the Big East schools will not be involved in the wider net that may be cast. As religious institutions, we would get more "heat" than most schools and/or leagues.

I predict the NCAA will take the following actions: Issue a one-year suspension of the assistant coaches listed in the indictment. No need to rock the gravy boat.

To avoid threat of jail time, I expect coaches implicated would cop a plea, give up others, but then lose their jobs. Institutions like Louisville have to fear death penalty in view of previous infractions if charges validated. The NCAA will cooperate out of fear for further embarrassment of being portrayed in proceedings as the enabler it is. They fear the Feds with their unlimited resources as much as these coaches & their bosses will. There are tax fraud implications in this as well.

I lived through point shaving scandals effecting Tony Jackson, Connie Hawkins, Roger Brown, etc. That pales by comparison to this in my opinion.

I am shocked how many people on this board expect the punishments to be so light and that it won't extend beyond what we've seen. This is not a show cause charge from the NCAA - these are federal crimes. When assistants haven't talked previously the repercussions to them were suspension - not jail time. With their freedom at stake, these guys will be singing like birds. The NCAA will not be able to avoid coming down hard with federal crimes being levied against major players.

Rick Pitno and their AD are expected to be fired today.

Wonder what this means for Moses Brown? Maybe we can get back with him.

You can see how some of this is going to go down even at this early point. I suspect that the schools and Coaches are going to claim that this is all the work of some "rogue" recruiters with the assistance of "outside" shoe companies and others. They will all claim "we didn't know".

Of course, this is obviously bs as you cannot explain how certain players get on teams unless the Head Coach and others know exactly what is going on. Take Brian Bowen for example. Can you imagine Slick Rick sitting in his office one afternoon. His recruiter walks in and says "we got e'm". Ricky looking confused says "who'd we get". Well we got Bowen. How'd we do that? We weren't on his list. I stopped talking to the kid a month ago. Don't worry Coach. "he's coming!!!. Uh, Ok. Thanks guys!

Its totally absurd and laughable. Meanwhile, over at the NCAA they are worried about what schools are paying for a kid's lunch.

"These allegations come as a complete shock to me," Pitino said in a statement released by his lawyer. "If true, I agree with the U.S. Attorney's Office that these third-party schemes, initiated by a few bad actors, operated to commit a fraud on the impacted universities and their basketball programs, including the University of Louisville. Our fans and supporters deserve better, and I am committed to taking whatever steps are needed to ensure those responsible are held accountable."

AD Tom Jurich just walked into U of L administration building alone. Lot of speculation that today could be it for he and Rick Pitino.

Thanks for the laugh....

I can't wait for Dukie V and the Defender of the Coaches Club take on all this. Should be doubly hilarious.

Probably starts with how "these guys have always done such great things for the kids"....

ESPN reporting Pitino told his staff he expects to be fired.

Played against his teams. His best team had Red Bruin and the Fleming brothers

Vern Fleming went to Mater Christi and then Georgia (beat us in the 83 (NCAA Tourny). Was Chris' teammate on the Gold Medal winning 1984 Men's Olympic Team. His twin brother Vic played high school ball for LIC and then went on to play college ball at Xavier.

Phil Smith (New Mexico) was on that team with Bruin and Fleming.

Thanks. Forgot about him
