Around the Big East

I caught about 7 minutes of the 2nd half of Providence game. Their offense was anemic and I wouldn't say it was all because of Kentucky. They were something like 1-17 at one stretch. A close game was blown open during that stretch.

Looks like Long Beach St. (future Johnnie opponent) is about to get revenge on Xavier. Up by 8, with under a minute to go, in the 3rd place game at the Wooden Legacy.

Bad for the BE, but our non-conference SOS continues to rise.

@Syracuse
VS St Mary's
VS LBSU
VS Duke

These are the last conference games that concern me. Give me 3-1 in these and no hiccups against the other cupcakes and it is a very successful non conf year.

Xavier loses to Long Beach St by 3

What kind of scheduling is this where they faced them for a second time this season??? I've never seen this, just like I had never seen conference opponents meeting in an early season tournament (although I understand why this one happened).

They met in a regular game, and in the finale of an exempt tournament. They probably both committed to the tournament awhile ago. Both teams probably needed a regular season game to fill last minute, hence that meeting.

Georgetown and Butler played because both schools had committed to the Battle 4 Atlantis before realignment.

Xavier played Tennessee twice last season too. Winning one and losing the other.
This is the second time they've crapped the bed in a row against an inferior opponent after almost losing to a bad San Diego team. They are 5-2 with an incredibly weak schedule thus far. The good news is they play Alabama at home (and beat them last year). The bad news (for the Big East) is the play both Mizzou and Auburn on the road after that.

Hey we got 5 votes, have to start somewhere;

@syrbasketball: Syracuse basketball remains unranked in AP Top 25 poll; see how close they are they are to getting back in |http://t.co/hEkiQJk3sP

Five votes is a vast improvement over last season.

Butler #23 - did not see that one coming a month ago.

@patokeefe12: .@SetonHallMBB's Sterling Gibbs named @BIGEASTMBB Player of Week. Averaged 25.5 in 2 wins, including 40-point performance a/g Illinois St.

@patokeefe12: .@MarquetteMBB Frosh Duane Wilson is @BIGEASTMBB Rookie of Week - scored 30 in Golden Eagles 8-point win over #Tennessee

No votes for Adonis or Amar. :)

Given the radio silence on the Adonis situation, it's starting to look like he might get his shot at freshman awards next season.

Kenpom has 7 Big East teams in the top 50 (we are #43).

It's still extremely early, but Gonzaga is the #1 team in the RPI courtesy of their two neutral court wins at MSG. We are #57 but could jump dramatically to close the year with a win @ Syracuse and three neutral court games remaining--and a huge road game against current RPI #5 Seton Hall.

Take care of business (which we never do) and that will be a top 5-10 RPI for us.

This is actually one of Nova's least athletic teams. [/quote]

Hey Marillac

The below 2 links contain videos of blocks by 2 different players that play on what in your opinion is "one of Nova's least athletic teams". Enjoy.

Ennis block

Pinkston block

Otis do you understand what athleticism is? You are so predictable. I knew you were referring to those blocks. Do you think Jevaughn Pinkston is a great athlete? He's a beast to be sure, but he is not a great athlete. Funny that you cite to two guys on Nova that are not known for being good athletes (very skilled though) to support your claim.

Mr. Otis, who was more athletic at the four for Nova: RANDY FOYE, Dante Cunningham, Curtis Sumpter, or Jevaughn Pinkston? Pinkston is clearly the lowest on the athletic ladder. If blocks are so important to you, please check out Curtis Sumpter's video below. Then apologize for this foolish discussion.

I won't even discuss Ennis further because he isn't one of the top 10 most athletic guards to be at Nova since Wright took over.
