Watching Kentucky/ Duke/ Kansas/ Mich St last night- it's scary how far off those teams are from STJ. It's like watching a different league.

You could say that about quite a few teams throughout the nation.

Your point?

We aren't close with the top tier teams, the game looks faster watching the top ranked teams play.

I think most people on the board are aware St. John's aren't particularly on par with those teams. Certainly, not at this juncture of the early season.

Thanks for your astute analysis.... Ummmmmmm.... Right!

No prob, anytime.

Florida did not look close to those teams either and they are ranked number 11.

"on par" being a nice way to say different planet. Isn't it early in the season for everyone? Cal was complaining about playing MSU so early but Izzo told him to go ahead and forfeit!

Additional astute analysis at no cost: There is a bit more to the game than recruiting athletes, i.e., ball movement / off the ball movement, passing, defending, setting up the right defense, shot selection, substitutions, running set plays / drills, shot clock management, rebounding / boxing out, teamwork, shooting FTs... Coaching, coaching & more coaching. Running drills until they can be done blindfolded.

Basketball is a deceptively simple game - but if you don't do the simple things well, it can make for a long season. Let's hope for a solid all-around game against the dreaded & feared Seahawks
:p

Coaching, coaching and more coaching! Sweet 16 here we come!

There are quite a few teams who aren't the same planet as those teams. Just because a team can't (or, perceived) compete one group during one point of the season doesn't mean they won't be able to compete with the same team(s) later in the season. I've been watching sports long enough to know there tend to be ebbs and flows to a season.

I'm also aware there is more to the game than recruiting athletes. Thank you, nonetheless. I think some of the things you've mentioned, in relation to the Johnnies, are relevant, as I also think a few things aren't relevant.

I'm all about waiting before making absolute statements and comments. I'm not saying that is what you're particularly doing (but it seems it's being conveyed in that manner), but there have several posters who have done so. Ebbs and flows.... A team who make look good early will fall off, while a team who doesn't look sound early will ascend. It's a marathon.... Not a sprint.

Regardless, I was aware.... Or, shall I say, astutely knew what ccnubz was attempting to do (per his post).

All I was pointing out is there is a big difference watching the teams that played last night, compared to STJ. That's it. If you think it was an obvious comment, and not astute, oh well.

Back on topic, PC couldn't have been sloppier in the second half and down the stretch against Brown. Very lucky to get the win.

I think cotton had money on Brown.

LOL

I was watching the game a bit earlier, as Brown was down by 10. I tune back in, and Brown was up by 3.

Providence got the 'W,' but it was hard fought.

Seton Hall is up 74-71 on Kent State w/31 seconds left.

Seton Hall in a close one against Kent St on FS2

Someone pointed this out yesterday, I forget on which thread, but did you noticed how bad the picture was on FS2? Atrocious(on Cablevision anyhow). It wasn't even a full screen, and was very blurry....

it was equally bad on FIOS though it comes in clearer on my old box TV then it does on my spiffy new flatscreen

Was it sort of in a black box ( not a full screen) ?

no I got the full screen. It did have an annoying large scoreboard on the bottom though

OK, well I have good news for us, tomorrow night is the only game all season STJ has on FX2.

Watching Marquette vs. Ohio State on Fox. Defenses look good, but the offenses are dreadful. 7 1/2 minutes to go in the 1st half and they have 26 points combined. Brutal.
