Not good for the conference.

@GoodmanESPN: Butler's Roosevelt Jones is out for the season due to torn ligaments in his wrist, sources told ESPN. Story to come.

Bad for Butler this year, but maybe better long-term, as he will have eligibility in 2015-2016 (most likely), thereby giving Butler a player to build around in year 3 of the post-Brad Stevens era (he was going to be a junior this year). That is, assuming he recovers, of course.

With Stevens gone, Butler is the long-term question mark of this league (I'm more confident in them then most) I'm sure no one wanted it to happen this way, Jones especially, but it may work out for them (and therefore the conference) down the road.

Hope he gets well.

While I agree with your long-term look at things, Year 1 will be huge for the conference. Sure, not much was expected of Butler after Miller left, but they would have at least been respectable.

The very last thing we need is for Butler to be basically a replacement of Rutgers.

Man 3 teams, Gtown, nova, and now butler have had one of if not their best player go down before the season.

I don't think St John's can worry about the rest of the conference. They need to win and recruit to succeed. Look how good Memphis was when they dominated Conference USA.

I think St. Johns has a great chance at winning the league this year if Lavin can get all the talent to buy in. No comparison to Conf USA though. This is a much better league imo.

I did not mean to compare the Big East to CUSA. My point was you can establish a strong brand in any conference if players view it that way. I think St. John's has a unique opportunity to establish this brand. I hope they can do it.

Would like to hear coach making some noise on 2014 recruits Seems like those who he is after are not even leaning our way Maybe pessimistic but disappointed we are not hearing some promising feedback from our targets

Stunned at how deep Saint John's roster is at every position. If chemistry is good and players accept roles, this is DANGEROUS team.

A few, other notable tweets, per Rothstein....

The reason why there's not more buzz around St. John's? Team is only 30-35 last 2 years. This group needs to prove they can win. #sjubb

Based on talent, alone St. John's has a roster that should be competitive w any team in college basketball. Embarrassment of riches #sjubb.

Keys 4 St. John's will be PG play, role allocation, + how they gel defensively. This team has length like 2010 West Virginia team. #sjubb

People commenting that it is 2 big ifs but really only one because if team has good chemistry that means they have accepted their roles and vice versus.
