Around the Big East

Xavier continues to skid, Nova destroyed them tonight at the pavilion.

DePaul/GTOWN on now on FS1

Fourth place is not impossible with a strong finish.

We'll catch Xavier. We have an easier schedule and can even them up with a win tonight and against them at MSG. Providence will be tougher to catch but still possible.

Xavier hasn't done squat this season in the big east. Haven't won much on the road other than DePaul, and got beat at home by seton hall. They will end year in sixth in big east standings, I am sure of it

It's not looking good for them right now. That SH loss could prove to be devestating. It cost them 11 spots in the RPI.

They had an easy conference schedule to start...I think first three games were at home. We had a very hard start and easy finish. We'll pass them...I think Gtown will as well.

Georgetown looked good against MSU. But boy was that game against DePaul last night Ugly

Depaul can do that to you...it was also a classic trap game. I'm more worried about Gtown than Xavier at this point. It's looking like Nova/Creighton 1-2, Providence 3, St. John's and Gtown fighting it out for 4/5, with Xavier six.

I hope Xavier gets that redshirt PF back because he's a good looking player and gives them another dimension in spit of what his stats might indicate. I'm sure he'll be back against us, but it'd be nice if they got him back after.

STJ is going to payback Xavier , with interest, at MSG.

Updated standings after tonight's games.

No reason we can't end up third in the league standings when all is said and done. We have beaten 3 of the 4 teams ahead of us excluding the top 2 duo of Creigton/Nova. And we have an opportunity to sweep two of those teams when all is over (Hall and Marquette).

Also, with Xavier sliding (3 straight losses) we have a chance for revenge at MSG.

@BGI_AndrewOwens: Mike Brey is looking to play Villanova or St. John’s two years from now. Probably not next year.

screw 'em, they ruined the BE twice, otoh, playing 'em at CA seems about right.

Let Nova play them. Of course he doesn't want to play either of us next year...he'd be taken to the woodshed.

Come on Marillac, you're too knowledgeable to take the quick cheap shot. You know perfectly well that he may have two or three non-conference games arranged for next year already, and that's the most likely reason he's saying that.

Cooley sure has his program in the right direction.

Having strong coaches is certainly key to the success of the new Big East conference, and Cooley is one of them. As much as he is strengthening Providence bball, I hope he sticks around. I actually love a conference that is tough top to bottom. There is not an easy game in our entire conference schedule, and not just because we've struggled a bit. On any given night, any team can lose to anyone, home or away.

Jaquan Lyle visiting providence. Top 25 2014 guard.

How he consistently can get top recruits to visit Rhode Island of all places amazes me.

From the Providence camps, to the US select team, Cooley knows how to use what he has to get recruits interested in his program.

Sure, we don't have as many ships to give out, but with all of our available "resources" at our disposal, you'd think we'd see much, much more action.

Well didn't he promise Ledo something?

Ledo was a local kid, so I don't think Cooley had to offer him anything. Cooley has done a nice job recruiting but didn't we get a top 25 guard to visit last year?

Not sure what you mean?

Regardless, he's always involved with northeast kids. Always on a Brewster kid. And always getting mentions.

Providence doesn't have the lure, history, new arena, recent championships and countless a Final Fours like UConn so yeah, I'm amazed Cooley has constant involvement.

Jakarr spoke highly of him.

My issue is we, in NY, have way more to show a recruit besides the campus and college atmosphere. But we sure don't get the visits.

Didn't we have 3 cancellations the past few years between Jarell Martin, Kentan Facey and the kid who went to Baylor this year.

Why you consistently reduce my karma like it actually has some kind of meaning amazes me. Loser.

Two BE games tonight, Friday night games are a great idea. Like the Ivy league.

Hall @ Nova
Depaul @ Creighton

STJ rooting for Nova and a double OT game in Creighton

I too like Friday night games idea, hope it happens more often in years to come.

As far as Creighton game, I'd be shocked if DePaul stays within 20, they recently lost senior Cleveland Melvin to suspension. But I also said Georgetown didn't stand a chance against Michigan state, so don't listen to me.

But you're right, hopefully Creighton wins, cause you don't want to get them coming off of a loss, but hopefully it's in triple ot to wear them out. It's already an advantage for us that they play tonight and have to fly to New York for Sunday, when we have had since Wednesday to prepare.

first DePaul/Creighton game Creighton got banged up. McDermott shoulder and Grant, knee. This game should be a cake walk for Creighton though. Although it was announced that Melvin won't play, the last I heard Melvin's suspension was completely the coach's call so he could return any time Purnell wants him to.
