Odds of this kid getting through season?

@gene_wang: #Hoyas C Joshua Smith did not make trip to Providence, dealing with academic issue.

DalyDoseOfHoops: Halftime in Newark: Seton Hall really hanging with No. 8 Villanova, trailing 38-32 at the break. Stats to come. #shbb

GT down by 5 to PC at half

Providence just beat Georgetown by 18 in RI.

The same providence team that lost to Seton Hall in OT.

For me a sign and major red flag that Lavin has even lost the fan base with that BS stunt at the G'twon game is that a tweet was sent out about it the Providence win and no one has even bothered to reply or comment about it.

Providence just beat Georgetown by almost 20. #sjubb has some splain'n to do!?

Also, last night when the St. John's account tweeted that Lavin was going to be on SNY there was absolutely no hype about it on the twitter space when there usually has been. Just something I wanted to point out that I believe to be indicative of where the program stands in the eyes of the fans.

Fans now file Lavin tweets under "Wedontgiveashit"

at this rate come tourney time we might become a bad win for bubble teams

That Penn State team, some folks thought was on the rise, lost at home tonight to Minnesota is 0 & 3 in Big 10. Don't think our loss to PSU will be one of those "high quality" ones.

This Gtown loss just made us a bubble team ----- for the NIT.
MUST win Big East now....no if and or butts!

I don't think we are on the bubble for the NIT. Seton Hall or Providence has a better chance to take that spot.

We beat Uconn by like 25 and they went on to win the NCAA Championship. What's the point? These things happen in every conference every year. Michigan lost to two-win Penn State last year and they ended up doing okay.

Good point Marillac. No one here should be happy with our last 2 games but lets not forget that most of the so called experts this year picked us to finish at or near 5th or 6th place for a reason. I'm also willing to bet that many more Big East teams will lose on the road to Xavier and G'Town before the season is over.

Winning on the road against good teams is very difficult. Outside of Nova there are no big-time teams, but 1-8 this league is tough as nails. Take care of business at home, get what you can on the road.

I'll probably use the reference 100 more times, but this is league is the basketball equivalent of having a ace-less rotation full of solid #2 and #3 pitchers.

The so called experts also said we have the most talent in the League. (Cue Otis)

So therefore that's as backhand a slap at Lavin and his coaching as you can get, no?

Physical talent only gets you so far. I think every expert statement regarding St. John's was hedged with a bit about us figuring a lot of stuff out first. I think if you ask any coach in the league right now what team can make the biggest jump from now to March, St. John's would be a near unanimous selection.

In this league there are few if any easy wins. Since this team had difficulty gaining separation from the mid majors they faced in December, then I don't expect it against teams with real high major talent. Which means that there will be a lot of close games that come down to execution in the final 5 minutes. How much faith do you have in this team to execute the end game well? With the lead, they will have to shoot foul shots well. Oops, that's a problem. From behind, they will have to score points in a bunch, maybe off the three ball. No help there. That's my biggest concern. This team from day one has relied heavily on DLo having big second halves. Absent that, somebody has to step up. Not sure who can handle that.

I highly doubt that. SJU players have yet to show they can pass, shoot, or rebound.

This whole "we are so talented" rhetoric is ringing pretty hollow. Outside of the Fordham and Syracuse games, this team has not looked impressive in any aspect.

Every team in the conference has at least one player averaging more assists than anybody on our team. All but two teams (Butler/Marquette) have at least 2 players averaging more assists than anybody on our team.

I continue to be blown away by the lack of playmaking for others not just this year...but the fact that there has been no emphasis on improving this facet and developing a playmaker from one year to the next. In Lavin's 4 years here, we have not had a single player crack an average of 3.0 assists per game. 3.0 being a extremely modest and attainable figure as there are currently 100 players in the country averaging 4.5 or more.

It's not for lack of personnel. Jordan and Branch are 1st and 3rd on the team in APG despite being 7th and 8th on the team in minutes per game. Compounding our issues offensively are that we don't get nearly enough easy baskets off dribble penetration, yet our roster seems built to do just that (quick penetrators, athletic finishers). This is an easily solvable issue, not a chance every team in the conference has better playmakers than both Jordan and Branch.

Excellent.

And it's because there is no gameplan.

Lavin just hopes that D'Angelo can go out there and bail us out every time on offense.

It's a joke. Just like how he brings Hooper into the game 2 minutes before every halftime. Like, "Oh yeah, I forgot we had a shooter on the bench".
