Around the Big East

Big East Player of Year will be Isaiah Whitehead, Kris Dunn, Ben Bentil or Josh Hart. The four unanimous selections. #hallin

Would guess Dunn to make up for Arch getting it last year as I recall.

Must be pretty disappointing to PC fans that they have two of the four top candidates for POY, yet they are "only" in 4th place in the conference (which, I know, we would kill for). More should have been expected. Dunn looks like he's just playing it out.

Maybe, but preseason, there were a lot of questions about the rest of that group. They surprised early, which kind of raised the bar, maybe a bit unfairly.

The biggest disappointment in the league this year, without question, was Georgetown. Picked 2nd in the preseason poll, but have to play Depaul on Wednesday night. My guess (and that's all this is) is that JT3 survives this, but enters next year on the hot seat.

Other then that, I don't see any new coaches in the league next year (unless somebody leaves on their own), since the only two really bad teams, both had first year guys.

Villanova and Xavier remain at 2 & 5, respectively, in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll.

Providence, Seton Hall & Butler receiving votes

5 teams should dance.

Another solid year for the conference.

What would really be solid is if three or four teams -- if not all five -- were to go deep into the tournament. Last year, only Nova made it to the Sweet 16, where their run ended. Two teams lost in the first round, and two didn't make it past the second round. Not a good showing for the Big East.

2 more teams in conference would help that. Teams need more bottom feeders so they don't beat eachother up all year.

It was Xavier who made it there, but yes, we need to do better, especially since America seems committed to this flawed way of thinking, that NCAA tournament performance justifies everything. In truth, that's just one game, where almost anything can happen. The regular season provides a better mark of who the best teams and leagues are, IMO. In other words, the best teams are the #1 seeds in the tournament, but it's the hottest team that wins it. This is not a shot at you redken, just something I've been wanting to get out there for a long time.

That being said, 3 of our 5 teams are likely to be seed between 7 and 10, thereby making a deep run unlikely (yes, it's happened before, I know). You're best bet is to hitch on the Nova or Xavier bandwagon.

This is a wide open NCAA tournament with many flawed higher seeds. So if there ever was a good chance for a 7-10 seed to make a run this is the year.

Thanks. I stand corrected.

He wins this, but not BE COY award. Conference messed that one up.
