Villanova has dropped to #17 in the newest USA Today Coaches Poll.

Xavier #6
Butler #12
Providence #14

AP Top 25:

6. Xavier*
9. Butler
10. Providence
17. Villanova
* Highest rating ever for Xavier

That is awesome. Three teams in the top 10.

And one of them isn't even nova. Crazy

Yikes. Thank god for Depaul or we might not win any BE games this year.
Depaul is far from a gimme for this team.

I'm hoping for a split. No reason we can't beat them at home but you are right no game is a gimme. The BE is brutal this year with four top 20's and very good Georgetown and Marquette teams.

Unless Seton Hall implodes again they will be very good as well along with Creighton. In fact the Creighton game at home should give us a pretty good idea if we can beat anyone besides DePaul.

So basically everyone KNEW we would lose to Syracuse and most thought we would beat Incarnate and NJIT but people still post what games we can win, lose, will get blown out, etc. I don't get it but hey, maybe that's on me.

Who is predicting wins and losses? I think all we said is that its a very challenging schedule to say the least. You can approach it any way you want but the reality is that SJU probably isn't going to win too many BE games this season. But you never know. Hopefully we get some exciting home games. SJU has some very good high level young players. They will get better as the season goes along and most importantly gain valuable experience.

Xavier with a great comeback win over a solid Wake Forest team.

DePaul with a big win.

Butler, Nova, Hall took care of business.

Georgetown edged out a bad Charlotte team. Never seen a team that plays to the level of their opponent as much as Georgetown.

Overall great day for the league. Shame SJU lost but expected.

Looking like 3 top 10 teams heading into conference play.

Scary to think that this team may not reach Norm Roberts 3 win Big East Season. That would be terrible.
Just can't fathom it.

Here are two coaches that have really done a terrific job with their respective programs.
1) Ed Cooley at Providence. Not sure when PC hired him relative to SJU's hires, but I think he was hired sometime around the time SJU hired Lavin. Cooley had to deal with a couple of thugs he recruited, but in general has done an outstanding job recruiting. When he started, PC was not an easy sell. The campus is nothing to write home about. The nicest thing you can say about Providence is that it is near Boston and New York. I wouldn't be surprised if BC didn't snatch him.

2) Kevin Ollie at UConn. He took over after hall of famer Calhoun and after a slow start, he has Uconn nationally ranked. Kevin has done well recruiting transfers and now seems to have a legitimate shot signing McDonald's kids and driving the program back to national prominence.

Not a better coach in the league than Cooley.
He grew up in Providence and isn't going anywhere.
Besides bc is about 10 steps down from PC.
It's the best job in New England now.
Happy Holidays.

Ed Cooley saw first hand how Boston College treated Al Skinner, whom he worked for. He would never touch the BC job !!!!

BC, upon moving to the ACC has become irrelevant, Pitt and 'Ex'Cuse are fast getting there.

Time for Ed Cooley to get more credit. For a couple of years it was said that he was nothing without Bryce Cotton. Now, I guess he is nothing without Chris Dunn.

Or....isn't it possible that he is just a solid coach?

Fairfield University fans agree.

EVERY coach is nothing without good players and Cooley has had good players and good teams with those players - ergo, he is a good coach, no question..

Yes, he has been successful at both schools. I wouldn't want him as my coach, as his antics rub me wrong, but he really is solid.

Just wonder where they'd be this year if Kris Dunn had decided to go into the draft after last season. There was talk saying Cooley was giving him bad advice by telling him to stay another year.
