@AdamZagoria: Providence and Xavier can both win titles Sunday. Friars play Michigan State for Wooden Legacy. Musketeers meet Dayton for Advocare Invit'l.

Loving that avatar Gil.

Same. If we somehow get him eligible by BE play we'd have a lot of opportunities to make some noise against ranked teams.

I strongly suggest that we temper our expectations as I don't see how a team of freshmen and transfers can beat ranked teams. Getting Marcus eligible will help us beat some bottom feeders , be more competitive against better teams and make us a better team for next season. 15 wins this season with Marcus would have been just great. Without him 10 is very optimistic.

We've got 4 now!

Chaminade doesn't count. D2 ;)

Personally I think 10 or 11 is realistic. 4 more non cons would be nice, 5 great. Can they win 3 in conference play? Hard to tell right now.

Pretty sure it counts, just not for NCAA tournament purposes, which probably isn't likely anyway. Would suck if we went on a tear and finished with 20 wins, but the selection committee viewed us as a 19-win team and bumped us.

I'm sure they'll count it in the record books. But yeah, it doesn't count towards RPI. Re getting bumped from the tourney, yeah that's pretty funny.

Possibility of anywhere from 1-4 ranked BE teams on Monday, though likely 3.

*Nova: will be ranked
*Xavier: currently #23. 3 wins so far this week, including vs Alabama and USC. Think they should remain ranked even if they lose to Dayton tomorrow.
*Providence: currently outside the top 25 at #37. 3 wins so far this week including #11 Arizona. Obviously if they beat MSU they'll be ranked (maybe even in the top 10 since they're undefeated), but I think they may be ranked even if they lose and play a respectable game.
*Butler: currently outside the top 25 at #30. Undefeated this week but only played 1 game against SIU-E. A lot of top 25 teams lost this week so they could sneak in there by default.

What would be even more interesting is if Xavier and/or Providence win tomorrow. So many top 25 teams lost that I think both would be at least top 15 with wins tomorrow.

The first few years of the Big East we've basically seen Nova in the top 10 and a bunch of other schools in and out of the latter part of the top 25. Would be awesome to see multiple top 10 teams this year.

love reading all this. Thanks for sharing!

Big East is third in conference RPI. We are behind second place by only .0005. We are ahead of the ACC and Big Ten, only trailing the Big 12 and PAC 12.

Also of note, the American is ranked #10.

Individual team RPIs:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/groupId/4

Providence #9
Xavier #11
Villanova #13

The highest ranked for the ACC is Louisville at #15.

So yeah, think the Big East is doing pretty damn good so far. We are more top heavy this year which is a good thing. Nova may finally have some competition.

@CerasolisGhost: FINAL: Seton Hall 69, Georgia 62. Whitehead led all scorers with 22 pts, big late in halves. Maten w/ 21 and 8. Carrington huge 20 pts #shbb

They better be! I dont know if ive been more impressed by a team so far. Well oiled machine with experience and a stud in Reynolds.

Bill Murray spotted behind the Xavier bench wearing a Xavier hat, his son Luke is an assistant.

Xavier is so well coached it is ridiculous. The best passing team I have seen all year. They have had so many easy baskets finding the open man this game it's a joke. Most of the time the open man is directly under the basket. Good driving from the guards and good big men to clean it up. Xavier is dangerous.

And outstanding coach, the norm at Xavier.

Maybe Norm isn't the right word. Too many bad memories of our own experience :)

@JonRothstein: The Big East continues to perform at a high level during the non-conference portion of the schedule. League is making a lot of hay early.

"Palpable buzz" :)
