Great read from the Providence Journal focusing on their AD Bob Driscoll. Before the Cooley hiring people were calling for his job. Now with all the recent success at PC, he is being praised for what he has done for the athletic programs. One can only hope that the Mullin hiring does the same for Monasch.

Didn't read the article but a big thumbs down to Cooley for the way he's handling Kris Dunn right now.

expound please?

Just assuming alum98 is referencing the fact that the staff if "pressuring" Dunn to stay another year. Rumor has it that they are telling him he is a 15-30 pick this year but if he stays next year he will be top 10. Don't forget that Cooley has done everything for this kid the last two years when he was injured. Don't think his handling of the situation has been wrong, certainly not Pete Carroll and Mark Sanchez like.

Curious if there are any legs to Maven's tweet about an alleged meeting of the presidents re UCONN joining BEC.

So @UConnHuskies calling @BIGEAST presidents 4 an audience bout membership in #BigEast #AmericanAthleticConference @KevinMcNamara33

What do you mean he's done everything for him?

If a kid, especially one who has been injury prone, is projected to be drafted in the 1st round, he should go not have his college coach playing mind games with him to get him to return.

Of course he can improve his game and draft stock with another college season under his belt.

But he was Co-POY.

Cooley acts like he's concerned about his draft position. He's concerned about his lack of recruiting a capable backup PG and losing Henton.

Let Dunn go.

Here is what you seem to be missing, Dunn has led Providence to the NCAA tourney, which should be payback enough for Cooley. He is a first round draft choice which is 3 years of guaranteed money. If he returns to Providence and gets hurt again, who is going to compensate him for that. If he does not have as good a season next year, his stock will drop. This is a business decision and I think the smart move for Dunn is to enter the draft.

UConn to Big East would be tremendous. We would need some kind of buy-out to prevent them from bailing again. Bring in another "BBall only" school like Dayton and then close the books.

They'll be in the ACC some day.

Not saying it def happens but it would lend a lot more legitimacy to our hoops conference...

They didn't even dance this year.
The BE made them.
They're a shell of their former selves.
Get a team that's made it on their own.
Dayton and Wichita St. would be much better acquisitions.

I know UConn is a program with national title and past Big East cred but am I the only one who has really enjoyed the 10 team conference? There's something great about playing every team twice. I also like 10 teams because it's small enough that as a fan you can really get to know every team. If they were going to add a couple of teams, UConn and Dayton would be the type of schools I'd want, but I like 10. Take the ACC for example. As great as the top of the ACC is, look at how bloated that conference feels.

Too much invested in football for that to happen.

I never said that I don't think Dunn should enter the draft. In fact, I think the better decision for him would be to enter the draft. All I was saying is that I don't think Cooley has mishandled the situation. From everything I've heard, he has been pretty forthright, telling Dunn that he is probably a later lottery to late first round pick, but that if he stays and develops he will probably be a top 10 pick. It's not as if Cooley has pulled a Pete Carroll and said that he outwardly that Dunn declaring would be the wrong move because he has more to develop.

Didn't they win it all recently? 2014

In regards to football, Villanova played BC in 2013 and lost 24-14 at BC and they played Syracuse last year in 2014 and lost I believe 28-27 in OT at the dome. I am not saying BC and Syracuse are Florida State and Clemson but they are ACC football teams.

The reason I bring this up is look for Villanova to beat UConn when they play them this year. That should be a wakeup call for UConn fans about what they are destroying their basketball program for. A subpar football team that gets beat by an FCS team with 30 less scholarships.

UConn should park their football in the CAA, where Villanova plays, which is arguably a better conference than the AAC, and move all their sports to the Big East. Making the jump for football from the CAA to the ACC is about the same as making the jump from the AAC, since that is what UConn is dreaming about doing anyway.

With recruits garnered by Calhoun while still in the BE.

NBA first-round rookie contracts are guaranteed for two seasons, with an additional team option in years three and four. If the team picks the options up, they automatically become guaranteed.

The ball is in Dunn's court, not Cooley's. It's Dunn's decisions so I am not sure how Cooley is holding him back by laying out his position.

UConn didn't bail on the BE, the non-FBS schools were not going to take a FBS school with them so UConn had no choice. They are no doubt unhappy where they are and were hoping the ACC would take them but so far the ACC has no inclination to do so, hence they are in the AAC.

I don't see the BE taking them back as long as they are an FBS school unless it was a huge prohibitive poison pill type buyout which I am not sure a State school from Connecticut would agree to.

Going into the CAA would mean they would have to downgrade their football program as the CAA is a FBC Conference not FBS. With the money they have put into their football program to upgrade from D1AA,, I don't know if they would be willing to become a FBC school which is what D1AA is now known as.

No, you're not the only who enjoys the 10-team arrangement. Big East brass like it as well.

Dayton has a great young coach and totally positive vibe about them. I would have said VCU before the leadership changed but Witchita State is probably the best second option...maybe a program like Cleveland State who's made the post season 6 of the last 8 years might be a decent fit but that would be a stretch. (all of this based on IF a BE expansion ever happens).
