Jaren Sina transferring from Seton Hall:

CORRECTION: They are calling it a "mutual parting of the ways." We know what that REALLY means, though.

I think his quote is really alarming for that program:

“I tried my best. I think it was a good teammate,” Sina said via phone. “I’ve always been positive. I’ve always worked hard. I always gave it 100 percent. It’s not a good situation for me right now. At the end of the day, I think it’s best for me and my family.”

Isaiah Whitehead removed everything seton hall related from his twitter account last night.

So he hates his school, hates his teammates and probably hates his coach?

Will Tiny be his agent and negotiate his D-League contract for him?

Haa, will the posters who blamed Lavin for not taking this package deal please stand up? Still blame Lavin?

Lavins biggest mistake last year was not whitehead, it was not getting McCullough. Give me Chris McCullough and we are still #15 or better

Really? We had Sampson and Sanchez last year, didn't make the tournament, but McCullough would make us ranked #15?

We were ranked #15 this year. If we have Mccollough I bet we maintained that ranking. So yes. I do think it'd make us ranked 15

Wow, what exactly is a mutual parting of ways though? I don't remember hearing that, especially on the side of a team, didn't think you could force someone out unless they violated rules. In addition, he was starting every game, which makes it more bizzare.

It is called the Whitehead effect !!!!!

Seems like it could be 1 of 2 things: either he is looked at as the problem in the locker room (which I don't believe is true) or he doesn't want to deal with the issues in the locker room around him while he is just trying to play the game. Either way, "parting ways" is just a nice way to say that he is leaving the program.

In the pros, when a coach leaves due to a "mutual parting", or he resigns, it's usually a nice way of saying he's been fired.

That's kind of what I was going for here, but with a college player, I guess it could have a different meaning, now that I think about it more.

Or because he's playing backseat (in a power struggle) to a kid who has his former HS coach and former high school teammate on the roster.

That locker room was fractured last year. You add a McDonald's AA and a bunch of freshman who think they're better than him and you could see this coming a mile away.

I don't feel sorry for SH one bit.

This is the article I linked to earlier. It's since been expanded somewhat:

http://www.app.com/story/sports/college/2015/02/11/seton-hall-basketball-jaren-sina/23231845/

Some highlights:

Sina did not want to air details, but the situation in the locker room had become untenable for him.

Internal strife has been a prime contributor to the downslide, as friction between the freshmen and upperclassmen grew over the past few weeks. After Saturday’s loss to Marquette, senior forward Brandon Mobley indicated some players were more concerned about their shot attempts than winning games. After the Georgetown loss, head coach Kevin Willard barred reporters from interviewing players for the first time this season.

One of the first highly-rated recruits to commit to Willard, Sina had been a model citizen for the Hall in the classroom and on the court. He never had discplinary issues. Willard and others praised his work ethic and unselfishness. At times, Willard goaded him to be more selfish in hunting for his 3-point shot.

Generally speaking, Sina had a good relationship with Willard, who allowed him to call sets and considered him to be a coach on the court. That makes his departure, and the locker-room problems that led to it, all the more shocking.

I just went through the SHU message board and it is the consensus that Sina is a great kid and they are all sad to see him go. He always got a great amount of playing time for his abilities so I don't think that is it either.

One thing I do know for sure, I'm not upset this is happening to them!

This strikes me as a nice kid leaving a dirty program with a bunch of high rated self centered recruits believing they are better than they are.

This was mentioned last night, but here's some expansion on the Gibbs-Whitehead near throw-down:

http://www.southorangejuice.com/201...isaiah-whitehead-nearly-go-at-it-as-the-halls

First reported by Gary Phillips of The Setonian, a brewing divide between Seton Hall junior guard Sterling Gibbs and freshman guard Isaiah Whitehead came to a boiling point following a 17-4 Georgetown run that answered the Hall tying the game at 44 after trailing by 20 in the first half.

Kevin Willard's two star guards didn't throw any punches but had to be separated by associate head coach Shaheen Holloway during the under-12 media timeout in the second half. The event wasn't caught on camera by the Fox Sports 1 team and I missed it live, but Gibbs appeared to be staring Whitehead down following the timeout. I was able to independently confirm that the event happened as reported and that it stemmed from a prior practice.

Some seton hall fans are saying there was a fight in the locker room last night.

I was wondering why a reporter at the game tweeted that security was called into a closed locker room.

Seton hall fans that seem to be "in the know" also saying there was a fight today as well

One wonders what having an assistant coach whose role on the team was dependent on the recruitment of one of the locker room antagonists, does for resolution of the bitterness. It's like one of the guys in the fight was sleeping with Dean Wormer's wife.

I can't remember where I read the post, but it was on a Seton Hall board (Rivals or South Orange), and this particular poster, who supposedly, sat behind the bench stated how Sina was ticked when he was pulled from the game, and an erratic-Whitehead was inserted. The poster said, Sina walked away, while mumbling to himself and had to be pulled back into the team huddle by an assistant coach.

I guess Sina figured, he has to get the hightail it.

I don't read the boards of any other team, but today I went on the Seton Hall boards. LMAO, what a revelation. I used to actually think that Redmen.com had the only crazy fans. We ain't alone fellas !!!!!

I don't think you can call McCullough a mistake. Lavin went after him and lost.

That might be true. I've heard some other things though

Mrs. Bernie Fine is no longer associated with the program. My guess is there was a much younger influence.
