CMA's comments on Stanley reminds me a bit of his comments on another ex-SJU low post player.

Let's hope rather than being the next Toro, Stanley is more akin to the next Dylan Wusu; an under the radar freshman recruit who exceeds expectations as a frosh.  Have to admit I was as high on Toro as coach was at this time last year.

I was high on Toro also. But, from the first time I saw him play , you could just see that he didn’t have the athleticism to play in CMA’s system.

To All Johnny Fans:

If you plan on going to just one MSG game this year, make it the UCONN game.  As we clamor for more respect, one thing we can control is making sure that isn't a home game for the Huskies.

This is my concern w/ Soriano. While he might be able to get some rebounds and putbacks/baby hooks, the several games I saw him play with Fordham, I thought he was too slow and think that will only get
called our more in Anderson's pace of play. Think Soriano will be more servicable than Toro (anyone would be), but will need to be selective and will put added expectations on Wheeler, Stanley and perhaps even Nyiwe.

Appreciate and respect your insight/opinion, especially as someone who has actually seen Soriano play.

This is why I suspect we will see a lot of lineups with Wheeler, Champ and 3 of Posh, Wusu, Smith, Mathis, Coburn and possibly Pinzon on the floor.

Soriano lost a lot of weight, hopefully he will get faster.
He was listed at Fordham at 250. Listed this year at 260 and its been said he lost 20 lbs. I wonder if he gained a lot post season and then lost it.

RS I'm sure I'm forgetting someone (or more then one), but when was the last time we got a player who lost weight and got faster to any significant degree? Maybe more stamina, but not faster that I can recall.

The kid we got from NC ST who had such a forgettable one year with us that I've already forgotten his name. Store? /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

There likely aren't many players in our program's history with a worse competitive fire.

You won’t have to worry about that. They will be on the PBRs line

Nyiwe is interesting, looks faster than Soriano

Nywie a ton faster than Soriano with big time athleticism.  Not similar at all as players.  It’s funny how so many have been begging for a true post player and when we get one, he’s too slow.  News flash, big “true” centers usuallly aren’t gonna win the races.   Very few Tim Duncan’s out there.  Soriano is not going to be fast.  He can get up and down the court but he will not be a full-time center the way we play under Anderson.

What Soriano does provide us more than a few rebounds.  He takes up space. Scores well on the blocks and can defend big bodies. We need a guy like him vs the guys like Sanogo, Obiagu etc. who we had no answer to in the past.  We will likely be center by committee which we have many more options than we have in the past.

Soriano is a big.  I don’t anticipate him being used more than 20 minutes a game, in rotation with other bigs.

The Big East’s 12-year television deal with Fox expires in 2025, and enhancing its product is important. Adding a school, however, would have to make sense financially and provide a brand boost, as bringing Connecticut back did last year. It also would eliminate the round-robin schedule, since the conference does not want to move to 22 league games.“I think we have to be open to maybe a 12th or more, depending on what happens in the coming years,” Ackerman said. “The end of your media rights deal factors in. … The incremental revenue that you can bring in, particularly from television from a new school, is part of that equation.

”St. John’s new president, Rev. Brian Shanley, told The Post the league presidents are open to adding a 12th member, but there is no school that makes sense. Gonzaga, which has reached the national championship game twice in the last four tournaments out of the mid-major West Coast Conference, has been rumored. But geography — Gonzaga is located in Spokane, Wash. — is a major stumbling block.“I think that’s the feeling a lot of presidents have,” Shanley said. “It’s a travel nightmare for both sides.”
