Around the Big East

I'm watching UCLA vs Oregon and Bill Walton is trashing the Big East. He said all the teams in the top half of the PAC 12 are better than any team in the Big East.

Report on Gillespie is it's a left knee injury and he won't be back tonight.
His mom in tears in the stands after getting the news coming out of the locker room probably tells u all u need to know.  Huge blow for the Cats.

Gillespie wss in the mix for BE POY . May still be . He's a good player on a good team and you don't want to see injury curtail his Senior year .  Speaking of which , who else is in the Mix ? My vote goes to Champ . Zegarowski didn't have the year expected . Duke ? Too inconsistent . Watson ? Up and down season . Bougjtnight ? If he played a full season probably yes but , can't  give it to him on 1/2 a Season but , who knows ? Champ should be the guy ! All year best of the best . Posh Riokie of year , no question . CMA likely Coach of year . Just think if  we had won the Butler and DePsul games .

As much as I can't stand listening to Bill Walton, he's half right here.  The Big East is pretty much trash this year.  The only team that I think is remotely dangerous in the NCAAs is UConn - even before Gillespie went down I didn't think that Nova was at all impressive.

Of course where Walton is wrong is that the PAC-12 isn't pretty much trash, it's absolute trash, a flaming dumpster fire.

The ACC is in the same boat as the Big East.  Basically the strength of the game such as it is this year is Gonzaga, the top half of the Big 10, a few teams in the Big 12, and maybe Alabama.

Damn- Never want to see that happen to any player... esp someone in his senior year with such importance to a team.

But with the talk of Dunn potentially deciding to come back, made me think that a lot of BE teams have what some would call "great college players" that might not transfer as well to the NBA. Yes there is Europe/international leagues.... but another run at college glory (free masters degree) could be more enticing to some players.

Some teams could have super-veteran leadership...potentially negating what most of us see as the most postive aspect of this season, that we are performing at this level with a core of underclassmen- that should perform better next year going against less experienced opponents next season

Options for return (if im understanding the rule correctly)
Nova: Gillipsie/Samuels/Cosby-Roundtree
Crieghton: Ballock/Jefferson/Mahoney/O'Connell
Seton Hall: Cale/Aiken/Reynolds... Mamu is gone
UConn: Whaley/Carlton/Polley.... Bouknight is top10 pick
Prov: Watson (uughhh)/Horlcher
Marquette: Theo John (this guy...feels like hes there a decade)/Cain/Mcewen
GTown: Blair/Pickett (could be real good combined with their incoming class)
Xavier: Scruggs/Johnson/Griffin/Carter
Depaul: Paulicap/Moore/Salnave
Butler: Nze/Thompson
SJU: Dunn....(sure Toro is a nice guy...but I wish him well)

Its going to be an interesting offseason for these coaches (as will be for many around the country)- with a new pool of players to potentially re-recruit lol.

With the limited amount of NBA potential from this BE class of seniors.... think we might have a tougher than expected conf next year.

i certainly missed it, but there's talk of Dunn coming back?  how is that possible?  i'd love for him to be back.

I like Dunn, but i don't want him coming back.  Would much rather have Williams play more of a leadership role and grow with the young guards,

Totally disagree.  Having a veteran like Dunn here would be fantastic for us.  Buy us one more year to grab another good guard or two.  Dunn is oft-maligned but I think it's unfair.  He's been stalwart for us.  He's not a good outside shooter but literally has won quite a few games for us like yesterday for one.  Love to have him back, alongside posh and GWill.

Staff will require medical opinions re Williams. A twenty year old playing a sport as demanding as basketball who has missed significant time two years in a row with a bad back is certainly a risk and would require a player like Dunn to be available.

I've said this before about Dunn. You get the bad with the good. I think he's incredibly quick, both as a ball handler and on defense. And he is fearless. But...those also work against him at times. Sometimes he is too quick and loses the ball off his dribble or throws a poor pass. Sometimes he's too fearless and will drive into a bunch of trees and he has nowhere to go and turns the ball over. His fearlessness also translates into him not being afraid to shoot, and sometimes his shot selection is questionable.

Having said that, I agree with you that I'd rather have him back than not.

Agree. Dunn has a big heart and plays all-out, which I admire, but his offensive inconsitencies and his questionable decision-making (especially in critical and shot-clock situations) often drives me crazy. Williams gives us more consistency, more athleticism, better defense, and much-needed size in the backcourt. If Dunn does come back, fine -- but I hope it's not as a starter.

Interesting on paper - but I expect most of the upperclassmen are going to go get paid somewhere next year.  No reason for them to stay in school with risk of injury and zero money.

Confirming the worst;

Villanova announces that Collin Gillespie suffered a torn MCL last night vs Creighton and will miss the rest of the season.
