Around the Big East

I'll never forget this quote from an article in 2010.

"To illustrate just how difficult Bobby Gonzalez was to manage when he coached at Manhattan College from 1999 to 2006, Athletic Director Bob Byrnes told a story about the bus company Manhattan used to travel to games.

“The guy who runs the bus company called me and said something to the effect of: ‘I have 131 drivers that drive for us. But we’re down to one guy that will drive for Bobby Gonzalez,’ ” Byrnes said."
I just remember fondly when Bobby G’s sister posted here during the time he was rumored to be a candidate for the SJU coaching job.

Very entertaining to say the least. I will just say their family’s blood was thicker than water. And leave it at that.

“Satchelgate”

Bobby Gonzalez, 47, reported to Millburn police headquarters on Monday. He faces charges of criminal mischief, along with shoplifting. He is accused of taking a satchel worth roughly $1,400 from the Polo Ralph Lauren store in the Short Hills Mall on June 29.

If memory serves, Byrnes hired both Fraschilla and Gonzalez. Do not recall if he hired Lappas as well, probably not. But I seem to remember he had quite the streak of hiring Manhattan coaches who were very good at that level but turned out to be lunatics when provided with bigger stages.

I dream that one day people will stop believing the AP poll is at all an indicator of how good teams are.

Not only does the point spread show there isn't much separating #6 and #15 but that #15 would be favored over #6 on a neutral floor
Purdue had the biggest jump in the polls this week after beating Bama. Wouldn't be the first time Vegas and the AP/Coaches didn't see things the same way. A win for Marquette would be as big for the BE as it is for them.

Marquette may beat Purdue tonight. They may have a really nice season.

But come ncaa tourney time, Shaka Smart stinks. Marquette will be out by the 1st weekend as usual.
