I wonder if our TV deal gets impacted/has a clause in the event of this happening.
"Current members have been told UConn’s addition would be “budget-neutral” and would not reduce conference revenue payouts to existing members, according to multiple Big 12 administrators."
If delaying football + ^ true, hard to imagine this doesn't ultimately get done.
It would be bad for the league if UCONN left, but it would be good for every individual team in the league if UCONN left.
Time to place a calll to Dayton, and try to get Villanova to agree to allow one of the other Big 5 schools (namely Temple) to join the league, as well.

If UConn leaves & GT & Nova continue to stink, we may have to look to asking B12 to look into hoops only affiliates. Take us, Nova, GT, etc.

I’m sure it does. I wouldn’t care as much if GT & Nova were doing very well and we have great season. But at least with GT & Nova we know they won’t be good sadly.

There was also the obvious inclusion of the women’s program and how big of a boon that would be for women’s hoops in the Big 12. That said, UConn was summarily dismissed by Big 12 presidents as an expansion candidate just one year ago.
Why are we back here? Yormark has desired a NYC/northeast presence in the Big 12 since he took the job. The Huskies winning back-to-back titles in men’s BB reinforced his desire to try and convince Big 12 presidents to reconsider their previous collective stance on UConn.
There’s also the matter of the Big 12 JUST getting to 16 schools. A lot of ADs + presidents in that league have been steadfast that they wanted to stay at 16 for a while—especially w/ the fallout from the House case settlement still a huge unknown. Will they change their stance?

This from Nicole is basically where it stands. I think Yormark is trying to sell UCONN like the B10 sold its members on Rutgers back in the day. Gives us a footprint in the Metro NY market. The additional football money will allow them to eventually build their football program into a reasonably decent program. And unlike Rutgers back when they moved to the B10 UCONN already has an elite basketball program.

UConn football mattering is pipe dream. Big risk IMO. Can eventually hurt their hoops too.
2026 move has money impact as at 7/1/26 the buyout payable to BE drops from $30M to $15M. If they are going would like to see BE give them the worst possible conference travel schedules possible and play no more league playoff games in all sports in Conn
