Around the Big East

Hypothetical example of the day after if St John’s wins National Championship. 7am Tuesday. MZR guys this is depressing. I feel like we are heading to the Colonial Athletic. We just don’t have a chance. This is depressing.

200 members on the board. “ MZR you realize we just won a National Championship “

MZR “ yeah but that was last night. We are doomed now “
If we win a natty I’d die happy lol…I haven’t even seen us win 1 NCAAT game, 1 BEC, or even be ranked preseason/end of season. So of course I’d take that! I’m just not sure if we lose UConn & under poor leadership from Val, how we’re confident in future of BE. I’m just not seeing it. VCU & Dayton are not major brands. Won’t move needle. I think our only hope is B12 affiliate in the end. How can BE last?

So Big East took them back totally resurrected their basketball team so they could just leave again.
The Big East resurrected UCONN? Houston was in the AAC. They became a national power.

You are acting like the AAC is the MAAC.

I think UCONN is a better fit in the BE but they were on the path to success under Hurley either way.

8 BIG EAST games have been booked for the Garden,
Hoping that all or at least most will be weekend games at MSG. Attendance much better than mid-week (especially 8:30 or 9:00pm start time).
DePaul and maybe Butler at CA unless one at UBS?

Any decision on if K-State game will also be at MSG?

Thanks for the schedule update.

Not a guarantee they’d be this good with Hurley in AAC. They were not good there. Regional ties, culture, & fit still matter in some ways IMO. CFB in tri-state has never & will never be a thing. Not at a majorly successful power level. No recruiting & they will have way less resources than others in B12. Can only go down in hoops & football is never going to sustain success.

He had been there for 2 years dude. He was not going to come in and return them to power immediately regardless of what conference he was in.

It took 5 years for him to win an NCAA game.

That has little to do with conference affiliation.

And yes I can say he would have had great success because he is a terrific coach who is a great program builder. Like Kelvin Sampson. That translates to ANY conference.

If the Big East had as much influence over programs including more than the coach how do you explain how Georgetown went into the toilet and SJU consistently has been mediocre? It's a good thing Georgetown and SJU were in the BE for the last decade God knows how bad they would be in another conference...lol...uh except they have been bad in the BE...

UConn should be very careful here. Geno (retiring) & Hurley (pro soon with nothing left to prove) will be gone soon. Their basketball programs can easily slide into Cuse levels of mediocrity & maybe some top 15 type yrs at best. They’re going to play much tougher comp with other big public football schools. So going from having big advantage against BE private schools to being the little guy to most B12 schools. Their hoops very likely will take hit.

In football they stink. There’s no recruiting hotbed in tri-state or New England. CFB is not big here. It’s not the South. Would be like trying to make NASCAR happen in Manhattan. Not a cultural fit. Football can’t be any better really.

So they should think carefully. But you know they won’t. Then when in B12 they will try to get B10 somehow.
AURIEMNA just signed a 5 year deal through '29. Don't see Hurley leaving. He's made for college, and now he's in the same conference as his brother. He like the recruiting angle and they get whoever they want. He's also a bit of a punk which ain't gonna fly in the NBA,

I could see him leaving, but only for the Knicks, Nets, Celtics, Sixers, or Wizards, none of whom will be changing coaches anytime soon (Nets and Wizards just made new hires this offseason).

UConn NIL Collective founder

I have no idea about the Yukon NIL base, but they seem delusional when it comes to football. And it's laughable that the Big12/14/38 wants to tap into the NYC market like people here care about college football. They are a stellar 40-92 since 2011. Although I do admit that the sheer size of the NYC market can make even a miniscule market share seem huge compared to the 'metropolises' they are in. Same thing with Rutgers.

And no doubt our "partner", MSG, will always cater to us in terms of scheduling when Yukon wants to play there, right?

It was just a matter of time until Yukon wanted to bolt. The buyout should have been punitive but Val thought otherwise I assume.

In any event, college sports is awful now.

The relationship between UCONN and the BE has been mutually beneficial.

UCONN got to come back to its home so to speak and play games vs regional rivals.

The BE got a basketball power that was coming off a slumping period but was ready to be a power again.
