Hate that I share the same sentiment... Love our round-robin format with teams that we have shared History... but expansion seem inevitable... unless we get a bball only invite to one of the Power conferences...

If we could somehow separate Football from the rest of sports... which might be how things are working out... Out of respectable survival necessity... Wish list BE Basketball additions:
-Duke / UNC / Cuse / Notre Dame / BC / Pitt.... some combo of those ACC schools will make sure that the Powers that be CAN'T "snub" our conf...

Realistic additions:
-Dayton / VCU / Loyola-Chi / St Louis / St Bonna

None of the realistic additions will move the needle. None of the wish list will join. There football programs would have nowhere to go. The Super League is coming.

Assuming the committee keeps using the same criteria (which it shouldn't), this actually isn't terrible. Playing tough games against middle of the pack (or lower) high major teams doesn't move the ball as much as it should come tourney time. Playing Michigan, BC, WV did zero for us . Instead, you need to crush terrible teams and beat the top teams at the low majors. We have to play Vermont, UMASS Lowell, the best team in the NEC, Colgate, the top team in the WAC,

You have to realize the Committee plays a shell game of three card Monte. The constant is that it will use any subjunctive metric or excuse to disfavor big east teams unless they are top 20 ranked. If we did as you say, they will simply dismiss us by saying we played patsies , and justify a football school with some other theory. The deck be stacked against us.

Unfortunately, the BE has pretty much non-actioned themselves into nothing but awful choices. When BOTE was posting about how the BE was going to make the committee change their selection process, I asked a simple question, what was their leverage to force those changes; no answer understandably because the BE has no leverage. One could argue UConn is all that is keeping the conference above water.
