Around the Big East

I don't think they're even allowed to do that. My understanding is that you have to join a conference for all sports, unless that conference doesn't offer the sport you're offering (e.g. Big East not offering football).
If it is not forbidden, it is allowed :) They will think up something if the desire is strong.

Looks like SH will struggle this year and did not fare well in portal & their NJ rival Rutgers is clearly suffering with portal defections

and for us older fans The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate (Award).
someone watched Laugh In--for the young uns go to You Tube and watch a bit
If you have FIOS, Rowan & Martin‘s Laugh-In can be caught (or Dvrd) on Channel 496 (WNYW) weeknights (and some weekends) at 3AM. It use to come on another channel around 9 or 10.

Maybe this makes me a bad person, but I cannot feel bad for any of these struggling programs.

After the amount of crap we have had to deal with for nearly a generation, we can absolutely understand fickle finger of fate.

I get what you're saying, but honestly I do feel a bit bad for programs like Seton Hall and PC. Those teams helped prop up the Big East during the past decade and prevented it from becoming the WCC (with Nova rather than Gonzaga) or A10+. Then Georgetown, the biggest brand back when the new Big East formed, took PC's coach and Hall can't land anyone. Couldn't care less about Rutgers, though.

That said, now that we have a legit coach I'm really looking forward to the Johnnies actually contributing to the league for once. Maybe we'll even win it or finish towards the top. During my time as a fan I've had to always really root for the entire Big East out of conference because typically our OOC schedules/results have been so lackluster that we NEEDED lots of Q1 opportunities during conference play. Don't get me wrong, I'll still root hard for the rest of the league (besides maybe UConn), but with Pitino as coach I feel it'll be a lot less important how other Big East teams do.

I actually like all the Big East teams except for UCONN. Root for them all when they play OOC games but find it almost impossible to root for UCONN.
