Around the Big East

Boeheim 2-3 zone is less effective in 2022 than it was a decade or two ago because

1. Kids can shoot from the 3 point line better than they could 20 years ago, and

2. He is not getting the same across the board quality of talent he once did.

I am told by a source close to Boeheim that he fully intends to be back next season.
On last sentence. Same here.

If I recall correctly Mullin had discussions with Coach Orr about joining his staff shortly after Mullin was hired at StJohn’s.

I like Creighton to bounce back and grab a road win fwiw

Xavier (-10.5) at Georgetown
Austin Peay (+7.5) at Murray State
Missouri State (+7.5) at Oral Roberts
Creighton (+3.5) at Marquette

Louis Orr is a cautionary tale for all ADs.

He was a total class act who kept Seton Hall respectable during his tenure. Never great, but never awful.

What happens next? Delusions of grandeur in South Orange.

Orr is out. Gonzo is in. And disaster ensues.

Remember Louis' last game at Alumni Hall in Feb. 1980. We lost because the upstate ref called a blocking foul on Reggie Carter rather than a charge on Orr. Louie Carnessecca and I (and many others who were there that day) will go to our graves believing it was a charge all the way. It was a great game as both team had 20+ wins and 2 losses. We were up 71-70 thanks to Reggie and got a cuse turn over but the Rencher missed front end of a 1-1 and then Orr w/ help from the ref put Cuse up 72-71 at about the buzzer. AH probably paid off fire marshalls as it was the largest crowd I remember being there--SRO.

That call cost me an expensive steak dinner
My cousin, a Cuse alum, and I had wagers on every St John's-Syracuse game back then
That call felt like a knife was stuck in me
I, too, will go to my grave thinking it was a charge

Xavier lowered the Boum on Georgetown.
The grad transfer from UTEP is gonna be a pain the Big East.

Interesting Creighton lost five in a row, but only by average of four points and without Kalkbrenner. BE needs two elite eight contenders just to show there is more to the conference than Villanova, and after UConn no one else but Creighton fits the bill.
