Around the Big East

I would only say that if he were 100 percent playing.

Willard should be trying to throw the opposing staff off instead of letting them know they won't need to game plan for him.

Ok. So another disappointing season in the books.  Unmet expectations..  But, we took many very good teams to the wire but that still resulted in an  "L" on the schedule.   Which leads me to wonder.  Is coach good enough? Deep down Is exteding over ,500 streak his main goal?
Are our transfers and recruits really that good?  Posh is .  Champ became good although a slight decline down this years stretch could be argued.  What of transfers new recruits coming in?   Do we attract the sufficient talent to be elite in B.E. ? Or are we doomed to  scratching and clawing to our best possible result.....That being mid pack hoping for any tourney bid.  Been a fan since 70's.  But just losing hope for a program resurgence to really latch on to.
I'm  Not phishing or bating.  I'm just  a fan that's aging and hoping.

Good article by Serby carrying on Massimino legacy at Nova

https://nypost.com/2022/03/13/jay-wright-has-villanova-to-new-heights/

When I was coaching basketball in the 70's and early '80's, I worked at Coach Mass' camp for several years and really got to know him well. He was a great guy and always willing to share his knowledge of basketball with anyone, day or night. I remember telling him that I would root for him in every game that his teams played except for the match ups against St John's.

I was very sad to see him leave Villanova to replace Tarkanian at UNLV. At the time, I thought that was a big mistake. It's always tough to replace a legend who has won a national championship but the money was very lucrative, far more than Nova could ever pay him.

After he retired to Jupiter, Florida, he was recruited (in his late 70's) to start an NAIA program at Northwood University in West Palm Beach. He started from scratch, worked just as hard as he ever did during his coaching career, and built a program that eventually made it to the NAIA Final Four.

Rollie was a lot like Looie. A basketball lifer who was a great guy and a real family man. I miss him to this day and hope that he is looking down fondly at Jay Wright and the Villanova program. Miss you, Coach.

Coaches like Louie Carnesseca, Rollie Massimino and Ray Meyer are gone forever! You don’t have coaches like them any longer!

Finished the Big East book other posters had previously recommended on Friday. Just a great read! Massimino was a character for sure. Seems like Louie was generally the voice of sanity. Book concentrates on Big East from formative years to end of old Big East. Brought back lots of great memories.

Oh No--one of my favorite named players; would love to see him teamed with Remy Martin./media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

I’m going to read that Big East Book as soon as I can get it .  I was intrigued by the Posters who have read it and the comments about Louie and Rollie .   They were certainly 2 lovable Characters as well as , great Coaches .  JT 2 and Boeheim were great Coaches too. Just not as lovable as Lou and Rollie . Except to  Hoys and Orange fans .       I assume Rollie and Lou were friends to some extent . No reason they wouldn’t be . Just the enjoyment of Linguini with Clam sauce would be enough to have them sit down for dinner some where .     Besides their Coaching skills , they were Showmen of sorts . Louie with the Sweater and Rollie with his Shirt tail half off and tie askew . Jumping up and down during the games .  What a pair ! We won’t see their likes again .

Darn.....feel bad for him.

Rare player who played 5 seasons with one school. I always thought he might breakout a little more, but he was certainly a quality Big East player.

Tyrese Martin of UConn declared for the NBA Draft and will not return to school as expected

McDermott is one of the Elite Coaches , not only in the BE but , overall .  The Creighton Program is  advancing almost to the level of Villanova and Gonzaga . His record is outstanding .  How does he do it ? And , we can’t ?  It’s a fair question .

He was very close to getting fired last year after his unfortunately comments.

The Cancel Culture brigade didn't get him.  Extension is good for him, the school and the conference.
