Updated Big East Standings

1. Providence 11-2
2. Villanova 13-3
3. Creighton 8-5
4. Connecticut 8-5
5. Marquette 8-6
6. Xavier 7-6
7. Seton Hall 6-7
8. Butler 6-9
9. St. John's 5-8
10. DePaul 3-11
11. Georgetown 0-13
After being picked 4th in the preseason poll.  An absolute disaster of a season.

We knew we'd be in the second tier, but perhaps knocking on the first tier of teams.  The difference between the 3rd place and 9th place teams is only 3 losses.  Had we pulled out 1 or 2 of the close games against PC, Nova, UConn (2), things would be different for sure.  Plus IDK how much we appreciated the experience at PC, Marquette's ascension and Creighton's steadiness, which catapulted them all above us.

And if the teams ahead of us pulled out 1 or 2 of their close games they would be even further ahead of us.

There is no justifiying this awful season.

Crazy as this sounds, I don't look at this season as awful. Somewhat disappointing but not awful. Probably because, from the beginning of the year,  I wasn't sold on our talent level being that of a 4th place team.

What good can come out of this season..... Absolutely 0 expectations for next season...should limit the disappointment lol

Big East loses a lot this year. Especially backcourt pieces. Some will think this is preposterous, but find me a backcourt duo better than Posh and Dylan that’s set to return next year. If we are able to 1, find a way to end the season on an upswing, and 2, fill in the roster with the right pieces, expectations won’t be that low. Especially in terms of the BE.

for all of the obvious reasons, the feel of this BE season seems a lot worse than 5-8.  I hadn't looked at the actual standings or paid attention to the literal record in awhile, so I did a double take when I saw 5-8.  Feels more like 2-11.

Depaul is the team no one is going to want to see in the Big East tourney.  I think they are going to make a run and knock off a team or two.  The trio of terry, freeman liberty and jones are tough covers.  Excellent coach too.

This jones kid has 1st team big east potential.

3-11 in the league with the league's leading scorer but "excellent coach."
This place is truly schizophrenic

I agree, but how many of the team in the BE could say and wonder the same things?

Posh and Pinzon, Posh and Kolby King.  Wusu with backcourt ball-handling responsibilities when there are alternatives is bad coaching.

Had some time- so did some research. Now, I am sooo confused with who is eligible to stay, who has used up all their eligibility with Covid etc.... not all team sites are great at putting Grad Student next to names. So this is who i think** is eligible to return next year, who have either contributed in a meaningful way this year or should have capable of (guards only)

Prov - Bynum/Reeves/Goodine
Nova - Daniels/Moore/Longfino/Antoine (2 top100 guards coming in)
UConn - Gaffney/Martin/Hawkins
Xavier - Tandy/Odom/Jones (2 top100 guards coming in)
Marquette - Kolek/Elliot
Seton Hall - Richmond
Depaul - Terry/JFL/Gebrewhit
Butler - Harris/Lukosius
Gtown - Aminu/Harris/Beard/Riley (top 100 guard coming in)
Creighton - Nembhard
SJU - Posh/Wusu/Pinzon/Mathis (Storr is listed as SG so will give us 1 Top100 guard coming in)

It is tough to put my bias aside... but do think Nova (duh) has the most talent returning. Actually think Georgetown has reason to be optimistic with their guards next year.

I would love to say that Guard play should not be of issue next year - heavy veteran presence with a good deal of talent across Posh/Wusu/Mathis. Should have solid back-ups with Pinzon / King and Storr.

This will come as a surprise to many here.... but still think we lack a consistent deep threat.

One guy is 5Th in the BE in assists. The other two havnt played a BE game. Assuming either of them will be better than wusu is worse than anything coach has done this season.

Good stuff. Nova is gonna nova, but who’s their point guard? Moore is best player on that list but I think he’s better off the ball. They loose a lot of what makes them great this year.

After that, who’s the best player on that list? Couple guys could come back much improved, like Nemhard or Richmond, but I think Posh is right up there. And I’ve made it clear what I think of wusu. I’m sure others will dismiss it but I’m ready for the discussion re him vs the rest of the second guards.

CBS Sports sideline reporter said Aiken might be out for the season. Still having good and bad days due to the concussion. Bad days he can’t even be around the team. Awful to hear for a kid to be dealing w this

Feel bad for the kid.  It'll be interesting to see if he gets a 13th year of eligibility.

It definitely will hurt the Pirates NCAA  opportunities.

If you thought tonight was a beat down, this one could get really ugly.

Georgetown has two added problems right now:

1.  They can't do anything in practice to get better this year (maybe for the future), because they are only going up against themselves, and everyone in the league has way more talent.

and:

2.  They're getting the best effort from every opponent, every game now, because no one wants to suffer the embarrassment of handing Georgetown their first Big East win.

Another problem for my man Patrick - and while I hate Gtown and hated Ewing as a player, I grew to love him as a Knick and want him to do well:  you know every AC, handler, etc is in the ear of both Harris and Mohammed about transferring (assuming the latter doesn’t turn pro, as I’ve seen him in the second round of mocks).
