Yes, I'm sure that's exactly it, in 20 years of coaching basketball Mike Anderson hasn't figured out that you need to score some points.  Smiley face stamp on your report card.

Hurley went off on officials today after game:

Big East statement on Dan Hurley's comments on officiating: "BIG EAST sportsmanship rules prohibit our coaches from public criticism of our game officials." (1/2)

UConn statement: UConn athletics values the practice of good sportsmanship during competition, and expects our student-athletes, coaches, and staff to adhere to that principle at all times.  Public criticism of officials does not align with those standards." Per Zach B

Hopefully he is pissy tomorrow :)

If he is bringing in players specifically to play defense, something is not clicking as right now St Johns is ranked 300th nationally on team defense.

Depaul was up 6 at Providence with under 6 to go, looking to make it 3 in a row.

Friars just hit a 3 to get halfway back.

Best DePaul team I have seen in years. Appear to be well coached.
I agree but "best DePaul team" is an oxymoron along the lines of "jumbo shrimp"

Big difference between points allowed per game and overall defense.  When your offense creates so may possessions you are bound to give up more points per game.

St Johns ranks 114 in defensive efficiency which take such variables into account.  Not a stellar ranking but far better than you would think if you didn't understand the difference.  I think you do and just have it out for the staff though, so continue to have at it.

Butler putting a beat down on Marquette. What is it about Hinckle? Now I’m hoping Butler doesn’t pass us in the standings. :-o
But everyone said Shaka Smart is a coaching genius who can make a team dominant in his first year. Marquette has one less Big East loss than us lol.

Proud Alumn - weird spin

Marquette came into weekend ranked ranked #18. In conf, they have two more games played than us and while true they have one less loss, they also have three more wins than us at present time.

Correct my memory, but I dont think Anderson has made Top 25 for one week since he's been here.

Shaka 1 , Mike 0.

OK  Proud …..

Let’s talk facts.

Smart has thus been a D1 head coach for 12 complete seasons.

11 of the 12 seasons there has been a NCAA tournament.

coach Smarts team has qualified for the dance 8 of the 11 seasons.

Given Coach Smart’s record of qualifying for the NCAA tournament 8 of 11 seasons, your attempt to besmirch him over a loss to Butler at Hinckle is completely without merit.

A quick question for the Board:  what was turnover this incoming season on Marquette’s roster ?
If I recall when Smart took over the Marquette roster coming off of a losing record he was required to rebuild the roster.  Can anyone elaborate on how many newcomers are playing on this season’s roster ?  Thanks.

Besmirch? There was no besmirching. Smart is a good coach.

I am pointing out how many posters here jumped on Marquette’s fast start as a reason to criticize Anderson, asserting how Anderson must be a bad coach because he didn’t do as well as Smart, based entirely on Marquette’s early Big East wins. Well, Marquette is not doing quite as well as these Anderson critics were forecasting.

Marquette conf win % .571
St. John's. .417%

They have more  against better teams, including two vs. Nova

We beat the bottom of the conference. Our only respectable win was vs. Hall.

As of now, Marquette much better than us

I believe they have 9 newcomers, but I could be off. Speaking of newcomers, for us old timers that kid Kolec reminds me a lot of old Knick Mike Riordan.

I'm a firm believer that "you are what your record says you are", but even if you put that aside for a moment, anyone who is objective and who has watched the 2 teams play, would say that Marquette has been the much better team so far this season. Still time for that to change, but not a lot of time.

Monte- 100% agree on record being a reflection, but more so only for conference play as level of comp should be more similar. I have increasingly discounted non conference play in looking at overall record due to the disparity in cupcakes we play vs.someone like Hall who is not afraid to pressure test early.  Anderson will likely have another winning season because of it.

I'm fairly certain that Justin Lewis, who is having a great year for Marquette, is the only guy who was there last year. Remarkable job of meldling new talent by Smart.

Perhaps the poster who wrote the “LOL” comment disparaging Coach Smart not being a “genius” apparently did not know that When Smart took over the losing program at Marquette he had to add 7 new players to his roster for this season.

smart is a positive asset to the Big East Conference.

Really wish that this board could get back to civilized discussion/debate, and respectful and thoughtful comments, regardless of where anyone stands on CMA, the state of the program,
the facilities, Pitino, etc etc etc. This board used to be a pleasant diversion for me from all the turmoil and divisiveness going on around us, now it just seems like a microcosm of it.
