Around the Big East

Not only are both teams well coached in half court offenses, they are both shooting over 80% from the line in a close game. Can't emphasize enough what a detriment it is when you shoot 65% from the line as a team.

Great college basketball game and smart defense by Horchler on Kolek at the end - used his height to affect the shot w/o fouling.

What an enjoyable game to watch. Two top 25 Big East teams going at it, great atmosphere.
Both teams getting good looks down the stretch. Staying poised not relying on hero ball.
Watson is a handful. Let’s pray PC plays down to our level on Tuesday night.

We don’t shoot well from anywhere, not even when we have layups. But I digress, you are 100% correct. Poor quality foul shooting will kill you in close games and when you’re trying to close games out.

PC & Marquette in a very hard fought game in Providence right now. Hopefully that helps us on Tuesday. On the other hand, Reeves is back for PC.
Quality transfers on both teams are difference makers. Envious
A healthy Pinzon makes our transfers look much better, right now only ball handler we have who sees and spaces the court is Posh.

At this point in season, I think the best players I've watched, in conference, in no particular order, are Nate Watson, Adama Sonogo, Justin Lewis, Collin Gillespie, Paul Scruggs, Justin Moore and Bryce Aiken. Top seven.

Per Jerry Carino

Latest AP Top 25 poll: Michigan State, which visits Rutgers Saturday, is #13.
Big East rankings: Villanova 12, Providence 15, UConn 17, Xavier 21, Marquette 24.
Iona with 6 points!

Watching this UCONN/Creighton game

UCONN is over the back, pushing off or in Sanogo’s case flat out stiff arming guys on every rebound

also Cole flops the entire game.

Huge win by Creighton tonight at Yukon.  O'Connell did nothing because Yukon played straight up, tough man-to-man defense against him.  He had no open looks.  Against our switching BS defense, he was open all game.  Time to ditch that crap.

Supposedly Hurley went after one of the UCONN fans following the game. Those Hurley's are wound tight.

Nova about to go down to Marquette for the 2nd time this season

Shaka Smart running roughshot through the big east in year 1 with all new players.  Makes CMA fumbling through season 3 look even worse.

When posted in another thread on this board that Shaka Smart was the second best coach in the conference I got a ton of pushback. People had Hurley over him, what has Hurley accomplished? Shaka is the the second best coach in this conference next to Jay Wright. A phenomenal hire by Marquette and he’s a hometown kid.

Some coaches just belong at certain schools. I'm sure Jay Wright would have been successful anywhere he went, including here, but Nova was the perfect fit for him. That's why I'm still pissed off at the whole Fraschilla saga, I think he would have had a real nice run here in spite of what happened at NM.

Here is a question for you.  If the Marquette job wasnt open but ours was, and we pursued smart, would he be coaching St johns today?

Cooley and Shaka probably neck and neck for BE COY. Shaka made nice choice going home to coach  a program with rich tradition, facilities, financial success and huge fan support. He’d be wise to stay there a while.

I think his wife may have been more intrigued than he would have been, but that might have been enough.

I'm very happy for both PC and Marquette. Neither team was given any pre-season praise yet here they are, nationally ranked and #1/#3 in the Big East standings.

Cooley turned down Michigan, but PC still had to deal with a lot of people claiming they'd fade away after UConn's return. To the contrary, this is easily their best season in the realigned Big East. Marquette recruited well under Wojo but his teams never clicked. They made a big move to get a big coach and it has totally paid off immediately. Awesome to see.

Of course, I would like to see this (or even half of it) happen with St. John's one day, but when the Big East is strong it benefits all members. Hopefully the excitement surrounding Shaka along with a strong year overall for the Big East will help with TV negotiations. For this year we aren't "Nova and everyone else", and we aren't "Nova/UConn and everyone else" like many predicted.
