Around the Big East

UCONN plays in your face defense - just like we faced against Indiana and Kansas. They give very little space. We should be striving for this level of defense. Think we can but we seem to only do so when we are threatened - like late in the Monmouth game.

I don’t see Nova being able to  control the top teams in the conference. Xavier, uconn, Hall all present serious size issues. Maybe not saying much but I would take the field vs them in terms of regular season champ.

As well as being undersized, Nova also with a very short bench. All in great shape and play hard all the time but I think maybe vulnerable to a real intense defensive effort . Havent seen that effort from us yet nor enough 3 pt D nor playing the passing lanes nor cutting off interior passes. In other words our defense has not been good at all in my opinion.

I notice they only seem to be playing seven guys. I thought they had three or four highly rated frosh recruits.

Nova destroyed by Baylor, 57-36.  Couldn’t happen to a more entitled team.

Agree,,,I didn’t buy into the Nova and then distant 2nd to all others…..they are very good but limited depth

So does Seton Hall, a very solid defensive team.

Seton Hall is very dangerous with the emergence of Bryce Aiken.

If we can beat Seton Hall next Monday, we will be looking pretty.  it should be a heck of a matchup.  Posh vs Aiken.  Champy vs Rhoden.

Seton Hall s playing on all cylinders . They will be a tough opponent for us . They handled Rutgers pretty easily .  They are very quick , long and talented . Plus , they have quite a few seniors who have played for Willard the entire 4 years .  Rhoden is looking like a POY candidate . Cale is a very good player too . Aitken and Posh should be fun to see .   I still wondrer how Reynolds got away to Monmouth ?    We talk a lot about Players suited to CMA ‘s style but , Willard seems to get all the talent he wants that fit his system .   You can’t knock his success .

AP Top 25:
#9 Villanova
#16 Seton Hall
#20 UConn
#22 Xavier

#28 Providence
#38 Creighton

Best week this year for the conference, which is huge heading into conference play (starts Friday with #9 Villanova @ #38 Creighton).

Honestly, I don't recall.  It was the first StJ/Nova one last year (not even sure Gillespe played the second one).  Someone here with better recall will know.

At Finneran, Gillespie outplayed and outscored Posh 14-4 and we were blown out 42-25 at the half and wound up losing 81-58.  That's the game where Posh injured his hand but he played 27 minutes so he was in there for most of the first half  debacle.

I'm not concerned with the Posh/Gillespie match-up or Julian, I'm concerned about the other three guys and how we'll match up with them.

How can D be good when we dont board or protect the rim. I cant figure how mikes gonna find a way to win without the horses. Of course i hope im seeing it wrong.
