Well at least they have improved to become “not a good basketball team” as opposed to us regressing to reach that lofty level.[/quote]

Wait till next year my friend. We will have a real pg, a shooting guard who can shoot, a 6'11 center that has some offensive game and penny and the Duke in the starting lineup. If Figgy comes back then either penny or the duke will be the 6th man.

It is happening my friend. A little more patience from you.

They also have an all-league senior that isn't afraid of the big moment and can will his team to a victory in any game, like he did last Saturday night against Seton Hall

Tell me who on this year's squad is in the same stratosphere as:
Diallo
Powell
Howard
Baldwin
Bey

Come on, we don't have the talent on this roster to reach "lofty levels".We are what we are, a college team with no true point guard play (the most important position IMHO) and horrible 3 point shooters. Quite frankly, i am surprised how close we keep some of these games.

I was being sarcastic but thanks for taking me seriously and sharing some more of the talent nonsense. Although, I have come to understand that virtually all current basketball fans now subscribe to the “abandon the team game and play hero ball” strategy for the end of games. Me, I am a dinosaur and still think the team game that got you double digit leads will also close out games.
I have come to think that in addition to open transfers the NCAA should adopt another rule change, if the lead is 10 points or less, clear the court in the last 3 minutes and let the teams “best players” just play one on one to decide the game. That’s obviously what most fans want to see.

Agree with your team ball concept Logan but sometimes in end of game situations there may not be enough time to work the ball around and whoever is open takes the shoot because the clock might run out before anyone gets open or has a good shot which is why it is nice to have a clutch go to guy in those situations. (nice run on sentence by me).

Recruiting News: 2020 Versatile Wing Kobe Clark (@kingkobe_26) of Vashon (MO) has just verbally committed to @GeorgetownHoops.

Clark is the Hoyas 4th commitment of the 2020 class joining PG Dante Harris, Fwd. Jamari Sibley, & CG Tyler Beard.

No

I don’t think it would make any diff to SJU if he left ,they would get a real good exp coached and they would continue to beat us unless we so how over the next 2 yrs web bring in much higher quality players

I don’t disagree but IMO, that is a last resort, not a strategy. And what is a “clutch” guy? People remember the good, “clutch” times but forget the losses brought on by that approach. It cost Marquette significant players IMO getting tired of watching Howard hero ball for Marquette. And far from the only example. But I will add, it is coaches who allow it. It has become a viable end game strategy across basketball and really the product of two things, the absolute greatness of Michael Jordan and the undeniable marketing genius of the NBA commissioner, who I hate for replacing the team in basketball with the individual in their marketing to the detriment of the beauty of the game. Just my opinion.

Within the context of their offense, not by going off the reservation. Big difference that you guys seem to miss. I am not discounting the obvious benefit of great players at all.

Let's go back to Boo Harvey's senior year. He made a lot of big shots to win games. However, as a Point Guard, with the ball in his hands, if the shot wasn't there, he also made the right pass. He had the ability to make the right decisions at the end of the game. This is what we are missing this year.

Marcus was electric too, but more a scorer than a natural PG but , he could do what was necessary .. Erick Barkley was probably our last great PG , hard to believe it’s 20 years . Barkley could also pretty much do it all. He was a big talent and fit in perfectly with Artest, Postell, Grant , Jessie , etc . I still believe he was fouled by Scoonie Penn as he drove to the hoop for a potential game winning play . There was no call . Ohio State went in to the Final 4 and we went home .

My wife and I attended that game in Knoxville, TN. He definitely was bumped by Penn and we lossed out on going to the final four.

Agree with that - Boo Harvey and Erick Barkley were the last great St. John's PGs (and two great NYC products). Both true floor generals, who could get to the rim at will but were pass-first PGs who made their teammates better.

(Hatten was terrific, one of the best Johnnies ever, but definitely more of a combo than a true PG.)

Hopefully Posh is the next in this long and illustrious line of great NYC PGs that starred for the Johnnies.

The STJ point guard that never seems to get his full props is Donnie Burk who played on weaker teams in mid 60's.

Per Mike Hopkins re twin bigs;

Providence hosting Makhel and Makhi Mitchell, the twin brothers transferring from Maryland, for an official visit this weekend. It’s expected they will seek a waiver to play right away next season whether they end up #pcbb
