Around the Big East 19/20

Yes it does. He makes $3.9M a year now. If the Knicks offered him 5 years/$50m, is he going to say "no thanks"?

College basketball is becoming a 365 day a year job with little down time for the coach. This is what Chris Mullin didn't realize and why he failed here. By contrast, being an NBA HC is more like being a professional babysitter.

If John Beilein can leave college for a bigger paycheck in the NBA, anyone can.
Yes, he would say no thanks.

As you said, coaching in the NBA, it doesn’t take much. If you have the best players, you’re probably going to win.

Is Popovich the greatest coach ever? Or did he have The Admiral, Tim Duncan, Ginobli, Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, and Kawhi Leonard? Surprise surprise, he doesn’t done anything since those players all retired or left.

It’s why Beilen is dumb for taking the Cavs job and it’s why Jay would be dumb for taking the Knicks job. There’s no hope for the Knicks to win. Jay would have no chance to turn the Knicks around unless they get lucky and their draft picks turn into stars. After a year and a half the new york media will be on his ass even though the roster is simply hopeless.

Coaches care about money, but they are also competitive. For Jay Wright to step away from this empire he has built up at Villanova, he’s probably going to want some sort of assurance that the team he’s going to can actually be good. You think he’s not keeping an eye on how much of a mess this Beilen thing has become?

I don’t know jay wright personally but I’d put a lot of money on him not taking the Knicks job anytime soon
Are you sure he says "no thanks" to less work for twice the money and an off-season he can spend with his family?

I'm not, and I don't pretend to know what his priorities are. I'm simply saying that if someone offered me double my salary, for half the work and MUCH more quality time with my family, then that is going to be a VERY appealing offer.

To back this up I point to John Beilein who is a system college coach with fantastic college results. Nobody ever thought he'd leave for the NBA, but he did. It doesn't look like it's going to work out for him in the NBA, the grass isn't "always greener".

I hope Wright stays. A cornerstone HC/program is important to the viability of our conference in my opinion, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone in the NBA "made him an offer he couldn't refuse."

Look how poorly this is turning out for Beilen. Made racist comments earlier this year to his players, lost their support, and now rumor is he will be gone after year 1.

I'm sure this is looked at as a cautionary tale.

You really think Jay Wright hasn’t been offered a ton of money before to coach an nba team? Come on.

Coaching the Knicks is a black hole and everyone knows it except delusional Knicks fans still living in the 80s-90s

He won’t do it

Creighton about to knock off Marquette on the road. Blue Jays, Hall and Nova should all be 3 or 4 seeds, class of league this year.

Really nice road win for Creighton. It's been said, but worth repeating......McDermott is a heckuva coach.

I don't know how Creighton has managed to keep him.

His last job went poorly. I think he's learned that the grass isn't always greener. Plus it's nice being the only show in town.

It also shows just because a coach fails once shouldnt prevent him from another job which is far too often the narrative.

Hottest team in BE & obviously Coach McD has fostered a share the ball and best shot mentality;

Per Jon Nyatawa
A noticeable trend after Creighton assisted on 44 of its 62 made FGs (71.0%) during the last two games. As the season's progressed, the #Jays have been sharing the ball more

They remind me a lot of Jarvis's first two teams (the ones that Fran recruited). Very often, they have 5 guys on the court, all of whom can handle the ball, and pass it effectively (Tyrone Grant, and then Anthony Glover the next year, being the only exceptions to that). They're probably a better shooting team then our guys were, but not as good defensively. Still, the similarities are there, IMO.

On the Hoyas' radar: The Hoyas are just a few days away from learning their fate with Canadian four-star Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, who visited earlier this month. D.C.-area native Darius Miles is a four-star who has always been high on the Hoyas and they’ve turned up their pursuit of three-star wing Kobe Clark, who ranks just outside of the Rivals150. If 2021 five-star Moussa Cisse reclassifies, they could be in the mix there as well.

Great game tonight at the Rock. The Hall nips Butler at the buzzer. I thought for sure we were going to see overtime.

Just knew Hall was gonna hit the shot with .6 remaining, amirite? Felt like we were Butler in that situation. Too bad we don't play them with only one day off for them as they have until Sunday to come down off the high and get ready to play us.

Providence not done yet. Win at Georgetown tonight for sixth Quad 1 win. At 15-12, if Friars can close by winning three of four -- and three are at home -- think they'll be right there for a bid entering Big East Tournament.

1) Seton Hall (11-3)
2) Creighton (10-4)
3) Villanova (9-4)
4) Providence (8-6)
5) Marquette (7-6)
6) Butler (7-7)
7) Xavier (6-7)
8 Georgetown (5-8
9) St. John’s (3-10)
10) DePaul (1-12)

Some here speak of PC's "low" ceiling and "disappointing" year to year performance. I wish we would have had that kind of "disappointing" results over the past 20 years.
Providence is not a good basketball team. im not sure how but that record is fools gold.
Well at least they have improved to become “not a good basketball team” as opposed to us regressing to reach that lofty level.

PCs record is as good as it is because the big east is so well balanced and so many games go,down to the wire that the teams who work plays and have players who rise to the occasion at the end of games win their share of games even though they don't have much more talent than the opponent.
Last night's. SHU ending is another example. Don't tell me LJ or Rutherford wouldn't have thrown up a thirty five footer at the end of regulation.
