Around the Big East 19/20
Agreed.....Ewing has done a really nice job.

This is also a tough loss for Butler. Their next two games are at Seton Hall and at Creighton.
Haven't liked what I've seen from them for the last few weeks. 4-6 in the last 10 games, although some nice wins even in that stretch.

Based on what he has done with a depleted roster all year , and after watching today's game, winning at Butler without his two best players and having only five scholarship players available I'd like to see Ewing get big east coach of the year even if they have to play Wed. In the big east tournament.
I really like listening to Steve Lappas. I may have said it once before, but can't recall. He does a really, sound job as an analyst.
I was thinking that the other night during our game

Apparently, despite being 10-3 in league play, there is some trouble in paradise. These quotes are from Kevin Willard's scorch-earth post game radio interview:

“We have some guys with bad attitudes right now to be perfectly honest with you. When you have a bad attitude and you’re pouting and complaining that you’re not playing enough time yet your team is 10-2, you have issues."

"... I’m sitting in practice and I’m thinking, I’ve got a guy moody that doesn’t want to go through practice who hardly played. I have another guy who played 25 minutes that can’t make a shot and didn’t have a rebound. I have another guy that got embarrassed defensively."

"The bench is going to get shortened. Either you’re going to show up and play or you’re not. I’m really disappointed in a few guys who, either they regain their focus or I’ll just play six.”

Willard seems to go through this once a season. Looks like he's calling out Myles Cale, Anthony Nelson, Mamuk or possibly Obiagu. I don't think best to call out that specifically in public, even without name. Save it for ride home or next practice.

It sounds like Willard has tried everything before going public. Willard must be hoping a player or two responds well to this.

I love the double standard here. Ewing has done a nice job? This is his third year and will once again miss the tournament. If any St John's coach doesn't make the tournament by year two they are run out the door. Cmon

I can only speak for myself, but I personally think he's done a good job THIS YEAR, considering the circumstances and injuries. One thing about me is I try to call things fairly.

He has. I don’t think some people on here realize just how many suspensions/dismissals/injuries they’ve had. The fact they are on the bubble right now in one of the toughest big east years is impressive

Nova with a great 10+ point win at Temple to complete the conference's excellent OOC.

This has more to do with next season but Akok Akok of UConn went down with what is being reported as a torn achilles. Good young player for them who was supposed to be a big part of Hurley's plans moving forward. Gotta assume he medical redshirts next year.

Despite my usual rooting for bad things to happen to UConn, really hope Akok can recover and continue playing at a high level. By all accounts was a really nice, hard working kid.

Exactly QB. Kid was in tears. Hate to see this kind of thing happen to anybody, I don't care what team they play for. Hope he gets back to where he was over time.

I don't dispute that. I'm just saying our past coaches were not given free passes for injury and suspension. Just look at Mullins third year and Lovett.

Well, Ewing is actually working at it and, well, Mullin sadly didn’t. As much as I hated Ewing as a college player, I admire what he’s done to learn his trade as a coach and how he’s gone about it.

QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 17, 2020) – For his role in leading the St. John’s men’s basketball team past Providence on Wednesday, LJ Figueroa has been recognized by the BIG EAST for his efforts, earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season.
