Around the Big East 19/20

AP poll, Big East

12. Villanova
15. Creighton
16. Seton Hall
19. Marquette
21. Butler

Jay Wright would never do that. If anything he’d wait to see if Brett Brown gets canned after this season for Philly. The Sixers have established stars

If anyone thinks that Jay Wright would leave Villanova to work for an owner as incompetent as Dolan, I have a bridge to sell you. He has worked very hard to establish a legacy at Villanova. He is well compensated, his wife and children enjoy it there, kids want to play for him, and the fan base loves him.

While all coaches have an ego, I believe that Coach Wright's can be filled by continuing to win at Villanova. Him and his family are at home there.

Yes it does. He makes $3.9M a year now. If the Knicks offered him 5 years/$50m, is he going to say "no thanks"?

College basketball is becoming a 365 day a year job with little down time for the coach. This is what Chris Mullin didn't realize and why he failed here. By contrast, being an NBA HC is more like being a professional babysitter.

If John Beilein can leave college for a bigger paycheck in the NBA, anyone can.

Not necessarily. Last offseason, UCLA offered Jay Wright double his salary at nova to come out west and he said no.

If Dollan offers Jay Wright I don't see how he could not seriously consider;
1 probably 12 million a year
2 a condo near Central Park
3 great seats for over two hundred shows a year at the garden including the greatest entertainers of our time
4 Broadway show tickets , museums , great restaurants
5 two hours from your current home
If after three years things haven't worked out on the court Dolan fires you and you walk away with probably 25 million and offers to coach Duke, NC or some other school in that stratosphere.
You have to like Villanova a whole lot to turn that down.

He likes Villanova a whole lot, so does his family. I have no insight or idea whether he finishes his career there or not but not everyone is for sale to the highest bidder. Here’s one vote hoping Jay is one of those.

As you said, coaching in the NBA, it doesn’t take much. If you have the best players, you’re probably going to win.

Is Popovich the greatest coach ever? Or did he have The Admiral, Tim Duncan, Ginobli, Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, and Kawhi Leonard? Surprise surprise, he doesn’t done anything since those players all retired or left.

It’s why Beilen is dumb for taking the Cavs job and it’s why Jay would be dumb for taking the Knicks job. There’s no hope for the Knicks to win. Jay would have no chance to turn the Knicks around unless they get lucky and their draft picks turn into stars. After a year and a half the new york media will be on his ass even though the roster is simply hopeless.

Coaches care about money, but they are also competitive. For Jay Wright to step away from this empire he has built up at Villanova, he’s probably going to want some sort of assurance that the team he’s going to can actually be good. You think he’s not keeping an eye on how much of a mess this Beilen thing has become?

I don’t know jay wright personally but I’d put a lot of money on him not taking the Knicks job anytime soon

Villanova is the Hofstra of the Philadelphia area. Why leave?

They have two of the last four national championships. I believe that makes them Villanova of the Philadelphia area, and your comment a ridiculous one.

Not so sure about that ... but more likely, it would be a major blow to the Big East.

It was meant to be silly.

I would be very surprised if Jay Wright went anywhere except maybe (and it’s a big maybe) the 76ers eventually. He’s a Philly guy who loves where he is.
